    Default Crystalis

I used to love Crystalis when I was young, I rented it numerous times. Anyone else get to experience this classic, one thing I can still clearly remember is the guy who died trying to climb the mountain pass, I think that was the first time I remember a character really dying in a video game.

I was wondering how hard it is to find, and is it easier to find on NES or GBC? Was it battery backup or password, I thought it was battery but I cannot clearly recall? Was it, or will it be part of any collection on a later console GBA maybe?

    Where there any sequels?

No sequels, but it was rereleased for the Gameboy Color.

Crystalis had a battery back-up; you can store 2 files. It's actually relatively common around here. There's a place about an hour away that had 3 copies last time I was there. Use the online rarity guide to determine its value.

Great game. That and Iron Tank are, in my opinion, the finest games SNK ever made.

if at all possible avoid the gbc remake.

I knew one of the people who worked on it.
but, they took some "liberties" with the translation that ended up really detracting from the expereince.

One of my favorite NES games.

The GBC version changed the music.. and it's not good.

The short answer is that, as an old Atari die-hard, Crystalis was the game that made me finally take an interest in the NES. One of that console's best, hands down.

I don't recall there being a Gameboy Color version but I'm sure you guys are right. Crystalis is an awesome game. I still remember playing it and going through the swamp level or going through the cave and have to fight the flying vampire guy. You could also charge up your sword and get the 4 elements. Crystalis is such an awesome game. It saddens * * me that there is no sequel yet.

You know those guys and gals in high school art class that held a glimmer of talent, but wasted it painting nothing but sports cars and horses?

SNK was like that. Sure they explored their range a little at first, gave us Crystalis, P.O.W., but then their obsession with Street Fighter II took over, and in the end, they choked on their own vomit surrounded by oils and pastels of mustangs and stallions.

I'm just bitter there was never a sequel to Crystalis is all.

They are bringing it to GBA I thought?

Neat little game, never played it until now, the premise seems cool, waking up from a long sleep from a technology, and then to a old school town.

Fairly common game, I have the GBC game. I grew up playing Crystalis for the NES I beat it when I was about 8 or 9. Great game.

SNK did so many fighting games and such that I wonder why they never made any other RPGs, since Crystalis was so damn good...or did they? Anyone?

Crystalis, to me, was an astounding game all around. I remember getting it when I was around 11 years old because it looked like "Golveillius" for the Master System. I used to buy a game only once or twice a year and I remember the packaging used to sway me into a purchase. Coupled with the great price ($29.99 new at Toys R' Us), I purchased it instantly.

I was going to spend the weekend at my Uncle Rayme's (he was actually my cousin but 15 years older than I, hence "Uncle"). I took it over to my Uncle's house to show it to him and he got all excited. We had beat "Golveillius" the year before together and were very excited to open a new action RPG.

We put it in his newly purchased NES and started to play. 11PM rolled around and his girlfriend wanted to watch T.V. and he told her to go watch in the bedroom. A fight ensued and needless to say...we kept playing. That game had it ALL, I was so glad I had bought it.

We ended up playing until 4 or 5 AM and never did beat it. I think we got to the point with the dolphin whistle. The next day we went to a couple comic shops and then to Toys R' Us to buy one for him. We went back to his place and continued to play for hours upon hours.

Man that game just brought back a whole string of memories! Sorry for the excessively long "Tales of the Hardore"!

The only others I know of were Koudelka for the PS1 and Samurai Shodown RPG released in Japan for the Neo Geo CD.

I am glad to know that I did not just like the game for reasons of nostalgia. I had no idea this was a special game to so many others.

Oh yeah, it is. It's simply beautiful. The whole opening sequence is one of the coolest things anybody ever did on the NES. Everything about it is just spine-tingling. The animations of the dinosaurs and the lightening bolts, etc., are just incredible. I think the name entry screen is probably the coolest name entry screen in any video game ever. That's just me, and I'm wierd, but that's also just the magic of that game.

Crystalis was always special to me too,

I remeber back at the nintendo world championships they had a bunch of unreleased games available to play.

one of them was this goofy looking zelda rip off with a wierd looking purple guy.

nobody was playing it so I thought i'd give it a shot.

I ended up playing it for an hour and a half. I completed the windmill segment and was running around the cave and came up to an impassable wall. confuised i continued to loook around and try to figure out what to do.

one of the people working there had came over and was impressed that I had made it that far in the game (being smart to save the game every 20 minutes when the games would all reset)

he told me where to go in the cave to get to the boss, around that point it was time for me to go up on stage to "compete" but crystalis was the most memorable game from that whole event (I didn't even know the name of the game at the time)
I was exstatic when I saw the game over a year later in pack watch in nintendo power.

needless to say , I bought it on release day.

about the gbc copy, my friend who worked on it gave me a pr=release copy of it...SIGNED by the entire programing team.

    mmm crystalis :-)

I beat crystalis a couple years ago...
Its one of my favorites on the system(I can only play through games I really enjoy) Like everybody else, I really liked the intro sequence.
The bosses, for the most part, were really cool to look at.
    Really cool game
