Default Click'n'ship questions (was buyer refuses to pay shipping)

Okay. So two weeks ago, some guy bought four items off of me on eBay. He didn't pay right away, so I emailed him and asked why. He said he had to wait for his student aid check to arrive at the end of the month to pay. I say fine, I'll wait.

So it's almost the end of the month. And I send him a reminder. And he's saying that he wants me to ship the items media mail, when I clearly stated on my auctions that I don't offer it as a shipping option. And he's refusing to budge. I'm charging $10 for shipping via Priority Mail (Flat Rate + delivery confirmation + other costs). I tell him that my local post office refuses to let me ship computer games via media mail (which is true, the postmaster has given me a lot of trouble in the past). And he replies and sends me a huge note where he says I should fight this, complain, show him the rules, yadda yadda.

So I give him a lower shipping estimate (I ship multiple items via Priority Flat Rate because it's cheaper, but I recalculated the costs and it's like two dollars less) and tell him that he's either got to pay the money, or I take this to eBay.

Am I doing the right thing? Shipping stuff via Media Mail is actually more expensive to me because I have to buy a box and stuff, and the only place where I can find decent boxes around here is the post office, which sells them at very high prices.

I did not offer Media Mail, and I don't understand why the buyer is refusing to comply with a simple rule that was made clear. I've already given him a lot of space to work with. Should I go on and report him to eBay if he doesn't want to pay?

(Edit: Topic changed. See further posts for more info. )

I just had a situation which was basically the same thing just with international shipping. Since my feedback is under 100, I didn't want a neg just yet, so I used the option to mutually end the transaction. I'm guessing you have more than that, so I would file NPB and neg his ass if he doesn't want to pay. I would have done that if I had a solid feedback profile, but that's not the case yet. I can't ship games media mail here either, as they check the packages before they go out. Good luck!

Got a link to the auction(s)?

Were the shipping charges clearly stated?

Actually, I've got 94. :P I've gotten one negative from a seller who couldn't get a game to run, even though I said I wasn't responsible for the game not working.

The guy's got private feedback, to boot. No negs, more than 150 positives.

I really don't care about getting a negative, I waited too long and I need the money. I've already got one other zero feedback deadbeat buyer. I don't need more trouble. >_<

    Edit:
I originally used calculated shipping, but since he bought more than one item, I lumped them together and gave him a flat rate $10 fee.

I would also recommend this. If he doesn't wanna follow your rules, then report it to ebay and be done with it. Your shipping cost is stated in your auction, so why do you have to change it?

Yeah, I agree. He has absolutely no basis to complain and $10 for 4 full sized games is not bad anyway. Tell him fine, you won't combine auctions and he owes you $30 in shipping.

Damn, you made me laugh. You made me remember poor old kevin_psx! (Sorry dude!)

The guy hasn't replied. If he doesn't pay by tomorrow afternoon, I'm filing a report with eBay. Thanks for your advice, guys!

You need to forget your buyer & deal with the Douchebag Postmaster.

Ask him who his boss is-- call the boss. Tell him your postmaster is violating postal regulations by refusing to mail Recordable Computer Media as Media Mail:

You forgot to mention the part where it goes on to say stuff with advertising doesn't qualify. And these games have ads for other games.

So do books-- "if you like this book buy the author's new book. Coming soon!"). Books still qualify as media with ads inside them.

Sure, I'll just walk to the nearest one, fifty miles away.

On that note, does anyone know if reporting him as an NPB for all four auctions will give him one unpaid item strike, or four?

Just one. Which he'll appeal ("I'm new... i didn't know... cry cry") and than it will be zero.

Still recommend contacting a higher authority inside the U.S. Postal Service. Someone to overrule your local postmaster. Everybody including EBgames amazon gamespot uses media mail to send Computer Games and Movie DVDs (which have ads). If they can-- so too can you.

Here's the thing, when he bid on your auction, he , according to ebay rules, SIGNED A CONTRACT, Ebay will side in your favor if everything was clearly stated (atleast they are supposed to)

Just NPB his stupid ass, sounds like some useless drunk college student who shouldn't be on Ebay

No way would I have given that guy more than 10 days to get his crap together, I had a guy who said he had a legeal problem and would pay me on the weekend when he got paid, sure, I waited until Sunday, and I happened to notice that he had logged in to leave feedback for games he paid for THE SAME DAY he won my auction!! but he couldn't pay for mine. NPB has been filed, and 5 days later, no response x_x

Most of the time when I go to the post office. Media mail is like 10cents - $1 cheaper then priority. Unless were talking something very heavy. I can't imagine media mail being that much cheaper...

I just thought of another option for you: Parcel Post. It's cheaper than Priority (not necessarily by a large amount) and takes longer, but if you want to work with this guy, it's an option. I use it on the rare occasion someone wants Media Mail and the package is a heavy lot of games.

I don't use Media or Parcel due to two reasons:
One, it takes too long for items to arrive.
Two, I have to -buy- boxes. I don't have any boxes at home, the only places which get rid of boxes nearby throw them in the garbage and they get all slimy (which is an understatement!), and the only place nearby which sells boxes for shipping is the USPS. Said boxes cost anywhere from $1.99 to $5.99. It's -cheaper- in the long run for me to use Priority Mail.

The guy's got his own eBay store. He sells old computer stuff! He's been on eBay since 2001, has 161 positive feedbacks (213 total positives) no negs, or neutrals, and who knows how many mutual feedback withdrawals. So there's no bloody excuse for "I'm new!"

Boxes are fairly cheap here and they deliver right to your doorstep. You do have to usually order in increments of 25 though. Anyway, I know what you mean by boxes being too much so just thought I would share where I get mine from.

    4 games is $6.00(?) priority.

    Media is only $1.85.

If your auction clearly stated what the shipping charges were, then file a NPB claim immediately.

When selling on eBay, I don't tolerate extortion like this at all.

Don't be afraid of the negative feedback. If the NPB dispute comes out in your favour (which it will), any negative feedback left by the buyer on your profile will have a note ammended to it by eBay stating that the buyer either didn't participate in the NPB dispute process, or didn't pay at all.

Don't give in to extortion like this, it simply encourages more of the same behaviour and wastes everyone's time. Shut this guy down.

    -RS.
