Default Mario Paint - A Couple of Questions.

Eternal Tune and I popped this in over the weekend on a whim, mainly just to see what kind of things we were drawing when we stopped playing it. After re-discovering that it's actually kinda fun, I went searching for my copy of the Mario Paint strat guide, which I located and used to make a few stamps.

    1. I can almost recall an issue of Nintendo Power that had a small insert that contained stamps, songs, and other miscellany regarding Mario Paint. Perhaps it was a special subscriber issue, I dunno. I'd really like to find out what issue it was in without going through my whole NP mag collection.

    2. Also, is it possible to hack together a new mouse? The Nintendo was really tough to use...well, after being used to optical PC mice, that is.

The issue you're thinking of is Volume 44 - January 1993 - it's got the fold-out Mickey Mouse cover. In order to bring in the new year, NP ran a special bonus issue for subscribers that included a small, detachable packet filled with cool Mario Paint sprites. It's 16 pages long!

As for your mouse question... well... that's way out of my league

What's the best way to permanently save/record your songs and paintings in Mario Paint? It doesn't retain them, but I wonder if one could take the save state from a Game Saver+ or other such device and transfer it to a PC.

If you know how to rewire an optical mouse it's very possible.

How it was done back in the day (yo), was by actually hooking up your SNES to a vcr and record it or take a picture of your TV for those who don't know.

I don't know, but it may be possible to use a Game Saver.

I wonder if the tototek product would work...somethign must be able to take a Mario Paint Save state from one of these devices.

I remember using the VCR method, but it's a pain in the ass to get a tune back up and running. Also, you can't go back and re-edit pics.

The VCR method is what I used to use. It wasn't perfect, but it worked pretty well. I actually used that method to put together a 20-minute documentary about Egyptian pyramids for a Geography class, using nothing but a VCR, an audio cassette recorder/microphone, and a copy of Mario Paint. I wish I still had the tape for that -- I figure it would at least be good for a few laughs...

That's what I thought it was-my first guess, actually. I bought a large lot(issues 1-150) of NP magazines along with a ton of other stuff a couple years ago, and put my personal collection away so the ones I bought could be used as display in the room. I guess the person I got them from removed the insert, 'cuase it's not there. Looks like I'll have to dig my old one out!

I could probably do it myself but dont see why I would. You would need to rewire the mouse and you also need to find out if the constant 5v supply is enough to power the optical mouse, if it isnt then you might need to install some inline capacitors or the like.
