On the other hand, i wonder if the seller would turn down a few sniper bids even if those meant that the final price would be considerably higher...

Thats weird. That is the first time Ive seen that on Ebay, where the seller says he will not honor any sniper bids. Definitely his loss.

He's got other auctions with the same disclaimer. He wrote to me

"Yes this disclaimer appies to all my auctions. If Sellers A and B are bidding. And Bidder Z snipes during the last 5 minutes. I will refuse to sell to Bidder Z."

So if I bid with 5:01 to go no one can outbid me. If they did then they would have their bids nulified for bidding in the last 5 minutes.

If he really feels this way.

1. He is an idiot who must be holding a grudge against all snipers after some sniper beat him out on a pair of WWF boxer shorts.

2. He should just end every auction early manually as if someone does snipe he will have to sell to the winning bidder.

THis is just remarkably dim. You can set sniping software to place a bid for any time, so if he is creating an artificial cut-off point of 5 mins before the auction end, you just set the snipe for a few seconds before that, because nobody else after that will have their bid honoured.

WOW Don't know what that guys thinking. He's probably hoping for 2 bidders to go at it during the duration of the auction and knock the price up.

I agree that you can just enter a bid in with say 5:10 remaining and snipe it that way.... odd

What I don't understand is how he can "refuse" to sell to a last minute bidder. It falls under the non-performing seller category.
