Default DS Kiosks will soon have downloadable demos!

    http://ds.ign.com/articles/687/687243p1.html

Its about freaking time. According to IGN, soon the DS kiosks in stores will have multiple games which you can download and take with you.

The first demos available will be "Tetris DS, Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day, Mario Kart DS, Meteos, True Swing Golf and Pokemon Trozei, along with a Metroid Prime Hunters video clip."

Let's hope they give out some rare Pokemon downloadables when Pearl and Diamond come out. The demos are nice, but I want my Deoxys.
You are startled by a grim snarl. Before you, you see 1 Red dragon. Will your stalwart band choose to (F)ight or (R)un?

The demos seem kind of pointless to me. It's not like you can keep them on your DS when you leave the store. It's not really any different than playing the in-store kiosk.

I'm all for the downloadable extra game content though.

At most game stores that I've been to with DS kiosks, the units available to play on are in really poor condition. In one case, the entire lower screen was scratched up to the point of being unviewable. I don't generally carry around my DS with me to game stores, but if I wanted to try out a demo, I'd rather do it on a system that I know is in excellent working condition (mine )

Plus, downloadable demos will allow players to try a number of different games, and not just the 'demo du jour' (which usually seems to be either Nintendogs or Mario Kart DS).

Yeah, I suppose you're right Damaniel. I was just at a store yesterday and the top screen on the DS was totally shattered, so playing any demos on that was out of the question. Plus I don't like touching those greasy kiosks anyway. I don't see myself bringing a DS into a store just to play a demo though.

Couldn't Nintendo offer the downloads for people with Wi-Fi at home? Or is that part of the plan?

Sounds nice and all, but I don't like the fact you loose the demos after you turn the system off

I don't know if they're planning to do that right away, but it's a really good idea. That would help to take care of the 'lose it when you turn the DS off' problem too, since you could just download the demo again without having to go somewhere special to do it.

When the kiosks start showing up, I'm definitely going to have to try one out and see how well it works.

I don't see how that would work, unless they offered a firmware upgrade or a game card specifically for this reason. As it is right now, there is no obvious mechanism within the DS to do this function.

Somebody, somewhere (probably Japan) is trying there darndest to make said mechanism.

    That would be awesome.

Speaking of downloadable extra game content did anyone know 360 kiosks are starting to carry content?

The one I saw at Target gives you a downloadable car for the upcoming Burnout Revenge. You just put a memory card in the kiosk.

That's the smartest idea I've heard of in a long time. Losing it when I turn off my DS doesn't bother me a bit - I mean if I *really* want to keep it for awhile I could just plug the thing in at home. But I won't do that.

What I will do is try before I buy. I never touch those kiosks, as they never have games I want to try. Give me a few to choose from, let me download and move away - just brilliant.

It had better come to Canada!
