Default My First Game - The Road Trip!

I'm proud to announce the 'release' of the first computer game created and programmed entirely by me. It's called "The Road Trip", and it is somewhat loosely based on 'The Oregon Trail'. This took the better part of a couple of months (it probably also didn't help that I had known C++ for about a month when I started it), so I'm looking forward to seeing how you folks like it. I think it's a lot of fun, and hopefully you will as well. If the game doesn't work initially, you may need to install the Microsoft .net Framework, which is included in the .zip file with the game (this also means that the game is unfortunately not compatible with OSX, Linux or anything else that isn't Windows). The game can be downloaded below:

    Enjoy!

I just downloaded it, it's good to pass the time but I seem to have found an error! After reaching the first city on the easy route (don't remember where it was) I tried to leave and got attacked by a trillion and one message windows that opened faster than I could close them!

Other than that though, it seems to be a good distraction!

That's strange...I never encountered that during testing. I'll have to take a look into that. Your picture isn't working, what (if anything) did the pop-ups say?

It's the "Your inventory is full" message over and over again. Sorry, I don't know how to fix the picture

Huh...weird. I'll definitely see what I can do about that. I'm glad you enjoyed the game, though. It's definitely been a good distraction for me lately as well.

Eh it's probably just my unique ability to make anything computer related that I touch throw a wobbly. Was it difficult to make? I'd love to be able to do something like this.

It was pretty tough to put together, though there were only a couple of parts that REALLY gave me trouble. The hardest part was the sheer amount of coding it took to make it do what I wanted it to. It probably also didn't help that I thought it was going to be a lot simpler than it actually was. I'm guessing that's how game programming usually works, though. :P

I strongly recommend www.w3schools.com for an introduction to the world of programming...it's a fantastic resource.

Also, daltone, someone else complained about the same problem you had...so it appearantly isn't just you. Once I get around to fixing the bug, I'll be sure to post an updated version of the game.
