    Default Trouble running a old dos game...

    I have a problem running an old DOS game on my XP Pro SP2.

    It's a racing game from 5-6 years ago, not so old really, it's
    similar to Need For Speed 2 SE which I have on my PC and it runs well, in
    normal mode or in accelerated (Radeon 9600 + Glide Wrapper).

    I also play Quake 1, Doom and that kind of oldies with no problem,
    but this one refuses to run.

    I've tried with DOSBox but there was no result what so ever.
    The game doesn't even show on screen, it only makes the screen
    go black for half a second and then returns to normal.

    I've tried with compatibility mode, but no results.

    If anyone has a trick to make it run...I really want to run it,
    and if NFS2, Doom and Quake can run on my computer, I think that
    there is a way of making this one run as well...

    The game is called "Network Q RAC Rally"...

    So, all advices are appreciated...thanks :O)

    If it's a DOS game, Windows compatibility mode won't do anything.

    Sometimes the CVS version of DOSBox will work better than the latest official version, though it depends on the game. You can geta CVS version from the DOSBox Development forum at http://vogons.zetafleet.com .

    Failing that, VDMSound might be worth a try. The latest version (2.1.0 beta) is also available at the VOGONS forums.

    Virtual PC, maybe? I've used it to run some oldschool Win 3.1 games on an emulated Windows 95 computer.

    DOSBox might work. Virtual PC is a good bet too.

    or just install dos and do a dual boot =]

    DOSbox didn't work, aye? Hmm. Yeah, you could try VDMsound.

    I really don't know what to say. I've gotten pretty much every DOS game I've tried to either run on Windows XP or DOSbox.

    If is not to much problem, the demo can be downloaded here ( http://www.abcgames.cz/?p=downloady_zobraz&ID=2803 ) ...so if you can get it to run somehow, let me know

    I guarantee that the game is very nice and fun to play...NFS2 alike, but far more realistic...

    Seems to work fine in the latest DOSbox CVS, but my computer is far too slow to run it well.

    Latest DOSbox CVS

    Preconfigured demo, for easier running

    Make sure you make a few changes to your DOSbox.conf though...

    Your CPU block should look something like this:
    core=dynamic
    cycles=25000
    cycleup=500
    cycledown=20
    timesynched=true
    showcycles=true

    It's super important that you have timesynched set to true and that you have a stupidly high amount of cycles set.

    2 roushimsx: thanks for the hassle!

    I've strarted the demo, and when I just run the Dosbox you've linked, it runs a bit slow, it's almost like a delay when I press up in the main menu, it takes a half od sec to actually go up, and when i want to play, it just stays on the loading screen...

    The same happens when I put cycles to 25000, but then the game sounds pitched down, and it still freezes on loading before the race...

    I'm not actually shure where DOSbox.conf is and how to edit it, only thing I've done is altered the cycles trough ctrl + f12...
