    Default An online gaming question

So is it only me, or are there other people out there who don't like playing games online (excluding MMO's) until they've beaten the single player game?

Now, I know most of you are asking yourself, "Why the hell would I do that?"

Well, I do it because when I had gotten the PC version of Half-Life 2 a couple of days after it was released, and I was playing Counter Strike Source one night, before I had beaten HL2, and some fucking 9 year old gets on and starts telling everyone how the game ends. Everyone wanted to kill that kid, including some of his own teammates. Therefore, I don't play online until I've beaten the game. There are a few exceptions, however. (I.E most online sports/racing games or MMO's)

Does anyone else go by this rule, or am I the only one? I'm sure I'm the only one, but I'm bored and curious.

I tend to just play online. The game itself I play alone at first just to get the hang of it, but i don't usually play through the whole thing.
Diablo II - Played through it, then online
Diablo II Expansion - only played online
Warcraft III - played halfway through all scenarios, online the rest of the time

Some give you little bonuses for beating the game before you go online (I'm pointing at you Mech Assault, giving the Ragnarok Mech only when beaten).

Some I sat and played and beat well before touching the online (Halo 2 is a good example, though I beat it on easy about 3 days after its launch), some I did at the same time (Amplitude) and others I just jumped right into online and didnt touch the story mode (Rainbow Six: 3 and the SOCOM's pop to mind). Then again I used to play a lot more multi than I do now. Now I barely touch the online stuff, especially because most of my friends on XBL don't even appear to come online anymore, or are only on X360 Live. The Sony stuff just got so glitchy and cheater filled, I stopped playing them all together.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

Well it depends. I usually play the single player to get a feel for the game before I go online.

I go online for the quick fix, then days when I am bored to death I'll do the "story" mode.

I tend to play the single player only on my games. I have never taken a console online, although that will change soon I hope. I still love a good single player game, so I am not one that sees no multiplayer as a bad thing at all. Really, the only thing I do online is MMO's, and it has been like that for the last several years.

Usualy single player first, unless the single player is pointless like unreal turnement. But for most games single player is practice for the real deal.

in order to complete single player mode of monster hunter for the ps2 you pretty much have to play online mode extensively first.

selling an ipod mini. includes all papers and wires and stuff. message me if you are interested.

I generally hit up any single player modes, then after spending too much time getting bored or beatting the game I hop on-line.

There are a few games however that I didn't do this, such as the first Cossacks. It's a really fun single player campaign because it's so realistic, plus the squrmish matches are fun as hell. I went on-line for 1 game and beat the hell out of the other player. There was under 20 players on when I did it a few months ago, but I'm sure they've picked up steam in the second release.

The main games I go on-line with are Blizzard titles (Ya, I know..) which go back to when I use to dial-up with free ISPs and play Diablo 1 on b.net. That was the bomb back then! It was wierd as hell to beat the game in single player for years, and then hop on-line and everyone in the universe DUPs and wears Godly Plate of the Whale... Haha
