Default Got a Japanese Duo-R....What Do I Need?

Inspired in part by the recent thread about Turbo Duo prices, I found a relatively inexpensive Japanese Duo-R on the 'Bay today, with the cords and a controller. So, what exactly do I need now to play everything (including US Hu-Cards, because US TG-16 systems are either too expensive-the Duos-or butt fucking ugly-the TG-16 core system & CD), and how much/where can I get these things?

EDIT: And Since I'm lazy, what are the best US, Japanese, and CD games for the system?

Unless your system has a region mod it won’t play US HuCard titles. It will play both US and Japanese CD’s though. If you want you system modded look to this guy here:

    http://www.multimods.com/

I bought a modded Duo R from him (with a blue LED as well, it looks cool as hell) and he did a great job. Member D-Lite is the owner of that site. If you’re interested you might PM him. He’s a super nice guy to work with by the way, very professional.

    Take a hike, wang-broom!
I swear I can smell your stinky hands from here!

Since you claim the regular Duo is butt ugly I'm not sure I can help you

Not the Duo-the Turbo Grafx with the CD add-on. WTF was NEC thinking??? The drive goes under the system!

Anyways, I'll PM you when the system arrives about getting it modded. Thanks!

I'd usually say "mod it yourself" but not when it comes to the NEC systems, as many here will say and has been said here, go with D-Lite.

It's not impossible to do on your own, it's just a lot of crap to keep track of and add, not worth the headache when you can get first class service.

Or just buy a cheap turbo grafx to play US Hucards on. As for games you need, I've got loads listed at my site. Some of my favorites:

Akumajo Dracula X (I think I'm required to plug this)
    Fausette Amour
    Pop 'n' Magic
    Shubibinman 3
    Chiki Chiki Boys
    Don Doko Don
    Kaze Kiri
    Spriggan
    Sylphia

just to name a very select few.

Trust Gaijinpunch. A used TG16 can be had relatively cheap. Plus you get the joy of having even more cool video game hardware! On top of that, it'll probably cost more to have your Duo modded.

(No offense to you, D-Lite, I hear you do wonderful work, but with shipping twice...and then the work...it'll probably cost less.)

    1) It's fugly.

    2) It's big.

    3) It's even bigger with this AV console thing I've seen.

    4) I'm running out of space for my consoles as it is.

It is definitely the more painless approach... not the aesthetic one. You could do what I did... just don't buy US Hucards.

    Default Duo

If you are going to play the Arcade Card games series (Fatal Fury 2, Fatal Fury Special, Art of Fighting, World Heroes, Sapphire and many more) you will need to buy the Arcade Card Duo. This card will let you play all the Super CD games and lower.

Some great suggestions already made, but I have to chime in with a personal favorite of mine: Detana!! TwinBee. Very cutesy vertical shooter with both air and ground attacking (if you don't already know what the TwinBee games are like), and as far as I'm concerned, it's right up there with Pop'n TwinBee as one of the best in the series.

Here is what I would do:

    1. More important than a Region mod is a RGB mod. If you really want to see just how beautiful and amazing this super system is, then you should see it the way the artists would have preferred you to witness their works of art on....a RGB monitor. You can have D-Lite do a RGB mod, and you can view everything in glorious RGB. The Duo is one of the most impressive RGB systems in existence. The fact that the Duo could put 512 colors on the screen simultaneously, is just a credit to the engineering that was done by NEC and Hudson. You must see those 512 colors on a RGB monitor!

    2. If you are too scared to enter the world of RGB, then at the very least get a S-Video mod. Personally, if you are going to ship the thing out anyways, and have D-Lite work on it anyways, might as well have both mods done. Sure it will cost some payola, but in the long run you'll be glad you did.

    3. I would get the region mod as well. If I could only do one mod, then I would do the RGB mod above all others, if I could only do two mods then I would do the RGB and S-Video, but if you got the payola to do all 3, then might as well do the region mod too. You could simply get a regular TG-16 for American Hu cards, but then you would also need to have that modded for RGB and S-Video, and then you would also need to swap systems from the place that you hook them up to, it would just become somewhat of a hassle.

It's possible that by doing all 3 mods at one time, you can get a little bit of a price break on all three, considering he wouldn't have to open your Duo-R to do the mods three seperate times. He just has to open it once, do all three mods, and then close it. Probably saves a little bit of time from the labor standpoint.

You might want to secure your RGB monitor right now too. I would try to get a Sony PVM with the 25 pin plug if I was you. Either 19 inch or 20 inch or 25 inch or whatever. Or just test the RGB waters with a Commodore 1084S-D1. D-Lite should know how to make a cable for either one, I'm guessing.

    Dude.

    Seriously.

I'm not fucking rich. I'm not spending even more cash to get a mod for which I would require a brand new TV.

    So bloody chill!

Note to mods: Can we get the RGB word filter back please?

PC-Engine artists obviously intended nobody to enjoy the games in RGB.

That also depends. When was RGB invented? PC Engine might've been popular when it hadn't even been thought of yet.

My Duo-R is modded...with just the region switch. But I'm still happy as hell. Only reason why it's modded is so I can still play my copies of Tiger Road, Ninja Spirit, and Sidearms I've had over the years.

Other than that, after I get Bloody Wolf one of these days, no more US Hucards for me.

RGB was invented when the first color TV was made.
