    Default Those Pesky PS2 Imports

OK, the general concensus with the PS2 import scene is that you should just buy a Japanese PS2. Obviously, I'm not one to go that route. I'm planning to get a flip top mod and Swap Magic.

The real question here is compatibility. I'm looking around the internet and I somehow end up on Swapmagicfix.com, which tells me that I need to use an original large-TOC PS2 DVD when playing Vampire Darkstalkers Chronicles.

What the hell does that mean?

Can anyone help with this? Is this PS2 import method in reality just very unrelaible?

Mod chips work like a champ as well -- never tried the flip top/swap method. My PS2 is a NTSC/U model and I got it modded -- it now plays anything I want it to (except non-Region 1 DVDs).

Didn't what you posted just mean you need an original PS2 to do the flip/swap trick instead of a slimline?

    I have an original PS2.

There's also alternate flip tops for slimline PS2s, although I have no idea how those are supposed to work.

    EDIT:

I figured it out. I just have to use a weird swap method with certain games. That's what all the TOC nonsense is.
