Default The Final Fantasy Port Project

Being that Square seems committed to porting the Final Fantasy Series to a handheld media, (well at least the first 6 of them), do you think it might be possible to port VII, VIII, and IX, as wel now? I bring this up because of the cutscenes that are in Metroid prime hunters. I know the 3d Graphics are possible on it, and up until now I didtn think that the DS could handle cutscenes so beautifully, but after seeing some of the beautifull cutscenes in Metroid Prime hunters, (the opening sequence), do yo uthink it might be possible. I also bring this up because Nintendo and Square seems to have made up as well with the release of Final Fantasy Chronicles, Kingdom hearts for the GBA, and the GBA ports of the First few Final Fantasy games. Nintendo Missed out on some of the best games in the series when Square chose the PSX as thier console of choice, and it would be awesome to see a revolution only remake of Final fantasy 7,8 and 9, as well as 10, 11, and 12.

    What are your thoughts?

I don't think the DS could handle it.

But regardless, I'm not going to pay for those games which I already own for a second time, unless some massive upgrades are made to the game, the graphics, whatever.

Final Fantasy VIII is totally possible with 3 UMDs, maybe even two. Funny thing is I don't see Squeenix re-mastering the video files to a higher/widescreen-er resolution. Unless they already have high-res super-awesome-quality master files hanging around somewhere they wrenched and shrunk in to the videos used for the PSX and PC versions of the game.

Final Fantasy VIII isn't worth that much attention. Or IX, and especially VII.

I don't see why they couldn't be possible. They'd just have to replace the FMV sequences with real-time polygons. This would work especially well in FFVII since the characters look all blocky in the FMV anyway.

I'd love it if they brought FFIX onto the DS. I love that game!

totaly possible - but not worth the cost per peice

Well that's just a business decision. I have no idea. But a DS version of FF7 would sell like hotcakes. I admit - I'd be surprised if it were on DS as opposed to PSP.

Well, they are bringing Final Fantasy 3 to the DS, Its going to be in full 3D. I'm sure there will be cutscenes in it, if they can pull it off on the DS for 3, we will see if they can do it for the others.

How about some remakes for the revolution???

they could be easily ported so long as the cutscenes use in game graphics rather than FMVs. infact, FFVII could be upgraded, with better character models that remain consistent throughout the game

I can't wait to see FF3 on the DS. I'm sure that it'll have cutscenes in it. Another of Squeenix's DS games, Children of Mana, is apparently aplenty with anime cutscenes (I'll review my copy when it arrives later this week).

However, I can't see them porting anything past FF6 to the DS. Perhaps the PSP, but not the DS. For FF3, the port is seen as an upgrade, and while I love the capabilities of my little DS, I don't think that it could do FF7-9 effectively. It'd be more of a downgrade, which I don't think they'll do.

As for bringing them to Revolution.. I don't think that'll happen either. I could maybe see a box set on PS3 or 360, but why the Rev? They wouldn't be taking advantage of the controller, so it wouldn't really make sense to port it there.

I really don't see them porting 7 and up, especially since it's a given that 7 will be remade for PS3.

The complete re-make of FF3 is very interesting tho, it's as if they held out on us intentionally.

The hell with the other FF games, give me FF6 on the DS/GBA.

After that, give me all the damned Dragons Quest games that never got released here! DQ5, 6, and the PS1/PS2 REmakes.

Christ, they've had DQ4 and 5 (6?) released TWICE over there.

How is this a given? I've been hearing this FF7 redex nonsense since the PS2. I think they're more likely to just keep making spin-offs that touch upon people's nostalgia of the original game.

I dont see why a remake for teh revolution would be that out of the question. After all, Nintendo gave them the start they needed to get g oing here in the states, oh so many years ago.....jeeezzz

Hey if Resident Evil 2 could be compressed from 2 CDs to 1 512mb (64 Meg) cart then i'd certainly beleive the FFVII-FFIX could be ported to the DS. Compression has come a long, long ways from the days of yore. Video that used to fill an entire disc can now only take up a tenth of it.

Besides, most of the videos in FF7 were largely useless.

The news that Xenosaga I & II are going to be released for the DS in a single cart does make the prospect of such ports seem a little brighter... But no, I can't see Square doing something like FF7 for the DS. If they weren't going to cut the game down for the N64, they're not going to do it for the DS.

Why is everyone arguing for or against the possibility of a DS port. I'd think a PSP port seems much more likely. And of course if they port any of the PSX era Final Fanatsys it'll be VII.

As for complete remakes are concerned, I'm rooting for IX. Viva la Vivi! :P
