Default Your best video game find in school

Come on, sometimes we find something so rare in a place call school!

I remember the time when I got a 3DO in school about three years ago. A kid was selling a 3DO lot in school, but since nobody knows what it is, nobody wants to buy it. I know what the 3DO was and how off the wall it is so I offer the guy $20 for the 3DO lot and he accepted.

From the lot I was able to get:

    Panasonic 3DO FZ-1 with hookups
    One controller
Flightstick controller (big, but great controller)

    Then it was the games:

    Wing Commander III (complete)
    PGA Golf 96 (complete)
    Need for Speed (boxed)
Myst (in jewel case only with manual)
    Monstar Manor (complete)
    Samurai Shodown (jewel case only)
and more games which I can't remember.

A year later after buying some more good games like Return Fire, I sold it for around $70 because there wasn't enough good games for it (FMV games are bad, except the Japanese animated ones).

That was my best school find, what's yours?

While in Jr. High, I remember some kid sold me his Game Boy, a little soft carrying case, and four or five games for something like $20. This was around '88 or '89, IIRC.

Wow, I bet that kid's parents were pissed at him!

I can't say that I ever really made any deals at school. But then, I didn't start collecting until I was out.
I only need 2 more NES games (US)!

Back in 1984 my brother traded another student 1/4 oz of weed for a stereo, a basket case Honda motorcycle and about half a dozen 2600 carts. He kept the stereo and bike and gave me the carts to keep the nature of the transaction quiet from Mom and Dad. This score included Video Pinball, Spider-Man and Miniature Golf, among others. But those three kept me occupied all summer long, playing them on my 5-inch portable B&W TV. Good times (I eventually wound up with the bike, too).

From The One That Got Away Department: Another classmate of mine had a dad who was the manager of the local Wal-Mart. When my friend wanted an Atari 2600 for Christmas one year, dad hooked him up with the store demo unit including the elusive Imagic Store Kiosk:

Buddy had this (now a highlight of the CGE museum) in his bedroom with every cart slot filled. How cool was that? When I started rebuilding my 2600 collection the 1st person I called was my pal here, who unfortunately had sold this kiosk off at a garage sale a few years prior Can't win `em all, I guess.

Getting Dragon Force (and a ton of other Saturn games) from a classmate in high school for $10 will always remain my greatest gaming-related school haul.

that is pretty familar ,in my electronics lab we had a ton of bizzare electronics stuff in the backroom, one day in my senior year the teacher was cleaning out the back room, and he knew i was a collector of sorts and said I could take anything I wanted from a pile.

I ended up with a trs80 model 3 with a few hundred disks, an atari 2600 with a pile of games, a gemini (still know nothing about this) a ti with a shitload of games and a large mess of controllers and wires.

I only wish I could have gotten the hero 2000 (robot) home..but still a very nice pile of stuff for free,

also I remeber buying a brick gameboy off someone for 1$ with revenge of the gator. stupid stupid kid. I used to buy nes games from him with my lunch money every day after that.

school was very profitable for me back then.

Dang, you guys make me want to go back to school!
The best I ever managed while in school were some trades, and temporary ones at that. Mostly Game Boy stuff back then, because Everybody had one. Nobody really liked the games I did though, so I didn't even do much trading.

Nothing too good for me, I used to buy NES games off of this friend of mine who didn't have a clue for like 2 or 3 bucks a piece. I must have bought 20 or so, This was around 94-95 in like 8th grade, I had a paper route and was like the only one who had cash so it was great.

I remember once in elementary school I was offered an Atari 7800 from a friend. I knew a lot about classic games even as a 7 year old circa 1993 I finally got him to agree on an offer. He tells me later that the power cable was bisted and we all know that a busted power cable for the 7800 makes it utterly worthless. It's one of a kind.

I feel rather left out. In all honest memory, I don't recall ever purchasing or recieving as a gift anything gaming wise in all my years of school or college.

Oh yes. Don't forget about Mortal Kombat, Pimp Wars (Drug Wars rip-off), and Tetris. MK took up an insane amount of room on the internal card, and I remember deleting important school-related programs to make the game work. It was worth it, absolutely.

Senior year of high school was when I started collecting a lot. People need cash for drugs and booze so they would come to me with there old games.

    1. Some kid sold me 10 DC for $5 a piece. The 10 DC games were all fighters. DOA 2, Soul Caliber, MVC, MVC2 etc.

    2. Bought a 3d0 lot aswell from a friend. Boxed and everything, with 8 games. $25

    3. Bought a sega master system from my teacher for $50. Came with about 20 games and the system. I just went through it, only 4 years later (hehe). All the Alex Kidd's were in there, including Alex Kidd in Shinobi World. Everything 100% complete. My best find in school.

There was some other but either not worth mentioning or I simply can't remember, as its been so long

I rarely bought games back then, but I do have one transaction to share: in my senior year of high school, I bought a loose Mega Man X from a friend for $5.

In Middle School I traded something (D&D books or something) and cash for a Sega Master System and a few games (Kenseiden, Fantasy Zone 2: the Maze, Zillion 2 and Alex Kid in Miracle World). Later on the kid wanted to call the trade off and threatened to get his parents involved buy my father explained to HIS parents first about their son's less than honorable actions. Needless to say, I got to keep the SMS.

Well, first I traded a box of magic cards for a disc only copy of Suikoden II. That was nice because the magic cards were just given to me in return for old arcade tickets and I never used any of them.

Then like two years later, the same kid who traded me Suikoden GAVE me disc only copies of Dragon Force, Shining the Holy Ark, Guardian Heroes and Albert's Odyssey in return for letting him BORROW Suikoden II for like a week.

I should thank that guy again.
