Default Future games worthy of a Special / Collector's edition

Some games, like Halo II; Perfect Dark Zero; Driver IV; MGS III; Resident Evil IV; and Doom III, are worthy of their steel cased Collector's Editions, as they are trusted franchises created by some of the world's greatest software houses, and sequels to some of the best games ever produced.

Then there are other games which I feel didn't really deserve to have this accolade bestowed upon them... Games like 24: The Game and Area 51. Why the hell did these get this prestigious treatment? Ok, I can just about understand King Kong (Apparently the game of the greatest movie ever made) having one, but why others? There are plenty of games out there that would have suited this treatment, and deserved it a lot more than "24"

In my opinion, Conker: Live & Reloaded deserved a special tin case. A remake of one of the best games ever. Steel Battalion would have been that extra bit special too if it had actually been in a steel case. And what of Tomb Raider? You'd have thought that TR Legends would have had something special to mark the 10th anniversary of Lara...

What future games do you guys think should be honoured with having a steel case Collector's Edition?

I think future games that should have one are:

    Gran Turismo V
    Silent Hill V
    Final Fantasy XII
    Devil May Cry IV
    Broken Sword IV
    Halo III
    House Of The Dead IV

And what of the GameCube? If anything deserves a steel case, it's Zelda Twilight Princess if nothing else.

Oh hell yes. I would gladly pay a premium for a special edition.

Agreed - those would sell like hotcakes

I think there should be more special editions / limited edition versions of games generally (that's how it is in japan isn't it?) That way if you happen to like a certain game/series, even if other people don't, and you want to pay an extra couple of bucks, then you can get it. Nice case, extra doodads, etc...

The only problem with that, I suppose, is I'd be scared they'd take stuff out of the regular versions to make the limited edition version more appealing. The regular edition has 10 dungeons but if you get the special edition then you can access this special secret dungeon. (I could totally see nintendo doing this - I still haven't played 4 swords on my GBA Link to the past because I don't anyone else my age with a copy of it )

Conker? only if it actualyl WAS uncensored like it was supposed to be.

I never understood mass-producing "collector" editions of games that aren't even out. How do they know their game is omg awesome and will sell so much people want extra crap? They don't. I don't understand it. If it was updates of uberclassics maybe (ie, if they ever do make that phantasy star collection after the sega ages version of IV comes out), but when the game isn't even OUT yet I don't see how it can already be deserving of specialness. Call me crazy. I suppose it's not so bad with sequels to particularly popular things but...eh, i dunno.

I'd love to see a complete Turismo box set (1,2,3,4 and a new one) with some cool packaging and extras tossed in. And yeah, I was surprised that there was no special Tomb Raider edition.

But then again.....if you're going to go through the bother, at least make it worth buying, not like that joke of a Perfect Dark package. Oblivion's special was more than worth the extra ten bux.

Same here, but for some reason, companies don't like to dig up old PS1 games, despite the PS2's cabability to play them. Look at the recently released Silent Hill Collection ~ There is no reason why they couldn't have also included the PS1 original, but instead they only released the 3 PS2 versions. Same goes for the Grand Theft Auto series ~ Fair enough, they have already released a Collector's Edition on the PS1 of the 3 PS1 versions, and also a Trilogy LE for the Xbox, but why not bundle them all together?

I like what EA did with the Command & Conquers on teh PC. Bundled them all together for the first time. Classic. Plus there was that Monkey Island box set that was pretty sweet. Just think what else is possible. How about a Legacy Of Kain box set that includes all 5 Kain games? Or Broken Sword?

To me, a Collector's Edition should be something that everyone desires, even if they already own the game. Ie, I already had all the PS1 GTA games, but I felt compelled to purchase the Collector's Edition. Likewise with the GTA Xbo Trilogy and Halo box sets ~ I already owned all the contents, but still feel the need to buy the collections.

Japan gets so many nice collection box sets. The Biohazzard (Resi) box set for the GameCube is just something that springs to mind. I am sure there are others, but that is one set that makes us Western gamers / Collector's wonder why we get treated differently... Ie, How hard is it for Capcom to bundle 6 US / UK games in a cardboard sleeve for the rest of us?

As an after-thought, a Gran Turismo box set would include:

    Gran Turismo (PS1)
Gran Turismo II (PS1) (2 Discs)
    Gran Turismo III: Aspec (PS2)
    Gran Turismo: Concept (PS2)
Gran Turismo IV: Prologue Signature Edition (PS2)
    Gran Turismo IV (PS2)
Plus a new GT game (Gran Turismo V?)

A Tomb Raider or Medal Of Honor set would also be nice, seeing as how the PS2 is backwards compatible:

    Tomb Raider (PS1)
    Tomb Raider II (PS1)
Tomb Raider III: Adventures Of Lara Croft (PS1)
Tomb Raider IV: The Last Revelation (PS1)
    Tomb Raider V: Chronicles (PS1)
Tomb Raider VI: The Angel Of Darkness (PS2)
    Tomb Raider VII: Legends (PS2)

    Medal Of Honor (PS1)
    Medal Of Honor: Underground (PS1)
    Medal Of Honor: Frontline (PS2)
Medal Of Honor: Rising Sun (PS2)
Medal Of Honor: European Assault (PS2)

Or the ultimate PS1 / PS2 box set would be Final Fantasy!

    Final Fantasy I (PS1)
    Final Fantasy II (PS1)
    Final Fantasy IV (PS1)
    Final Fantasy V (PS1)
    Final Fantasy VI (PS1)
    Final Fantasy VII (PS1)
    Final Fantasy VIII (PS1)
    Final Fantasy IX (PS1)
    Final Fantasy X (PS2)
    Final Fantasy X2 (PS2)
Final Fantasy XI: Online (PS2) (Unreleased in UK)
Final Fantasy XI: Treasures Of Aht Urghan (PS2) (Unreleased in UK)
Final Fantasy XII (PS2) (So far unreleased)
Final Fantasy: Dirge Of Cerberus (PS2) (So far unreleased)
    Final Fantasy: Tactics (PS1)
    Chocobo Racing (PS1)
    Ehrgeiz (PS1)
    Kingdom Hearts (PS2)
Kingdom Hearts II (Ps2) (So far unreleased)

I would pay any money asked for a box set like that! Just a shame that Square never made Final Fantasy III for the PS1 just to complete the series

I'm just hoping Sega does something nice for Sonic's 15th anniversary with Next-Gen Sonic.

Come on now guys, you can do it.

That'd be sweet. Hopefully they'll give us a 2D Sonic with some sweet 3D graphics like New Super Mario Bros.

Or re-release sonic cd on the wii virtual console (damnit I've already gotten used to typing wii).

I want a GTA box set. Most people started playing GTA with III and have never looked into the others.
