Well? Which one is it? They all have their highs and lows. I prefer Tony Hawk 2 & 4, but I didn't like 3 all that much. The THUG games are good, but focus too much on the radness of being Urban. Well? What's your vote? And most importantly, WHY?

tony hawks 2 on dreamcast is the best version i have played
I would have to agree with you there!Originally Posted by playgeneration
However, I would have said that if I hadn't had a clue that an Xbox version existed. Unfortunately, we in the UK never got Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2X for the Xbox, so for us, the Dreamcast version remains the best, although I own the Xbox version and would have to side with that
Why is there no Tony Hawk 2X option in the poll?
I'm partial to THPS3 myself. The 2:00-minute-run format suits the game perfectly, and the addition of the revert helps balance vert tricks against the street/grind styles. Plus the excellent variety and liveliness in the stages helps.
I'd say THUG2 is a very close second. THUG was just too much into the whole story line, but this one went back to the more light-hearted feel. Plus you've got several revived stages from THPS3, and Classic mode for the old 2:00-minute-run game. So it's kind of like THPS3-2...or something.
It's just a general question, not a console specific. Therefore you should vote for the "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2" option. But I love your reasoning! THPS 2X for Xbox is a superior version, with the Dreamcast coming in close 2nd.Originally Posted by Gemini-Phoenix

Tony Hawk 2 by FAR...and I mean FAR. (IMO of course)
1 is good but not enough to do per level. Once they hit 3 though the just had to many things to do and the levels were to jammed. I felt every timed I turned there was a new object and not enough room to skate.
I still play TH2 today, since the day it came out. Its just a great game and even better on xbox. Everything is just perfect.
THPS 2 for the DC is by far the best, with the best soundtrack to boot.
Welcome to Macintosh.
I love all of them up to American Wasteland.
But I have to go with THPS 3 for my all time favorite.
Two. The introduction of the manual was the biggest benchmark in the series so far. The revert is nice, but nothing like the manual in terms of chaining combos.
Ultimately, the other games, improved, to a degree, the Tony Hawk series (THPS 1-4) and while the Underground series tried to break the mold, they ultimately felt a little flat compaired to the high points in the original series.
Thus, THPS2 takes the crown for me.
I would have to say THPS3(PS2) is my all time favorite.
It's got great music(for the most part), a ton of unlockables, and a wide variety of stages and goals. The reason for me going for the PS2 version is, the controller works perfect with the game. and it's the only version on console of THPS3 to have online play(which is gone by now?)
A very close second would be THPS2(DC). As the DC version is far above the N64 and PSX versions.
Worst...
THPS Series(N64 versions). It pains me to say this, as the N64 is my favorite console. But it just wasen't made for this type of game. A large amount of the music is missing, ALL the FMV'S are gone, The controller doesn't work well with the game. And maybe it's just my imagination. But they seem to run abit slower on the N64(even worse then the PSX versions). :/ However THPS1 turned out semi decent on the system, but 2 and 3 just feel "off".
i'd say Tony hawk 2 is the best, but Tony hawk 1 had the best soundtrack ever
I voted for THPS2, but it was very close between that and the first one. I liked the levels and the music better in the first one, but I think the control in the second game was much improved and added so much to the overall experience.
The 3rd one was good, it just felt a little too much like more of the same.
I hated 4 and the whole "skate up to a guy and he'll tell you what to do" thing.
Once THUG got into the whole grand theft skater thing, I was out. But to be fair I was pretty well tired of the traditional format by the time 3 came along, so at least they tried something different, it just happened that what they tried didn't interest me.
THPS2 for me as well. It's the reason I keep my old PSX hooked up -- THPS2 never leaves the drive.
I had to go for the original THPS. I remember losing more and more interest in the series with each new game.
Tony Hawk 2 by FAR. I swear, once you got done facing off your friends in all of the standard levels, they even had pre made created levels that you can explore. And they had a freakin ton of those. And of course, you were able to make your own.
Damn, I spent hours with my friends playing that game. I believe we set it on 5 minutes, and I would stay in the vert ramp and just juice out all my tricks for all the points they were worth.
That game was amazing.
Another vote for Tony Hawk 2. I loved it on Playstation, loved it on Dreamcast, and I can't wait to play 2X on Xbox whenever I stumble over a copy in the wild
God yes, the N64 versions were so disappointing. The load times in the third game were a surprise and it's too bad that the system died out with such an incomplete release.Originally Posted by CreamSoda
I've always found the playstation versions to be playable (even today), but the N64 versions...ick
Regarding Tony Hawk 3, I remember buying a USB->Ethernet adapter just so my brother could play that game online. That was pretty crazy / cool / fun (I don't believe the official network adaptor was out yet, so it was cool that usb ethernet adapters were supported). Good times.

Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

I'm voting American Wasteland....even though I haven't played it yet.
I bought American Sk8land for the DS and loved the sandbox idea. I am assuming that Wasteland gives you the same....but lots more of it, and I like the idea of the bikes being thrown in too.
I also like good ol' Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 for it's familiar feel. I actually got quite used to playing it with the N64 controller. I just ran over to my collection.....and discovered that I also own it on the DC too!! I didn't even realize that! Cool!
