Replaced a fuse... and another blew... help!!

I saw that the fuse on the monitor board was blown (when I got it), so I replaced it. I couldn't find an amp rating on it... so I put a 125v 5a in there.

Anyways, I plugged it in, flipped the switch... and BLAM... the power supply one blew! So obviously I put a too large one in the monitor board; and there is a short somewhere!

The monitor came on for a split second... so I know that works.

So, how the heck can I find the short? Where might it be?

looks like a wells gardner monitor. i'll have a look at a scrap chassis and see what the fuse rating is for the monitor one.

the PSU powers the board set and the isolation transformer powers the monitor, so they are completly unrelated apart from sharing the same grounding.

i'd keep the cab off for now as your monitor may have a fault on it, and too high a fuse could let too much juice thru and cause more damage to the chassis.

I've gone as far as I can. I'll have to hire someone to fix it.

yeah, either that or if yer up for a discharge, a direct chassis swap with a known worker.

There's no guessing with replacing fuses, and putting a larger one in than what's called for will only cause more damage, or possibly a fire. If a fuse pops, there's likely a good reason why

yep. especially on a monitor chassis! (the worst part of a cab for guesswork, one wrong capacitor, and BANG!!)
