Wow, this is both interesting and shocking!

Apparently some Wii's (more than a few) are having issues reading the DVD9 format that SSBB is on.

I wasn't planning on picking this one up anytime soon, but I'll have to borrow one from a friend to see if my Wii can read it.

All the responses from people claiming that the game is non-functional in their Wii's in the comment section for this article makes me pretty nervous.

Does anyone know of a way to map the movement to the d-pad of the classic controller instead of the stick? I really hate playing with the stick, but I didn't see a way to changge it.

I've read on a couple of other forums that some people are getting around this problem simply by blowing canned air into their Wii.

Sounds like the same problem the japanese were having with their cigarette filled houses.

    Except with dust.

The dual layer discs like it clean.

I'm not sure how you do it since i dont have the game, but this review at 5:44 shows something about the classic controller:

I'm having an absolutely fan-fucking-tastic time with this game. I have about 11 hours played on it, between multiplayer, events, and the subspace emissary. Just one thing - does anyone know if it's possible to download custom levels? I know that was a much touted feature, and, if it exists, I sure can't find it anywhere.

Using the analog stick on the classic controller is difficult. I went ahead and used the gamecube controller. However, I have heard some good things about the Wii remote and nunchuk combo. Anyone try it yet?

I LOVE it. I've had no problems with it, it's been reading fine. Oh yea, I've been getting timed out on wifi, or can't find matches, but I did finally get in a match, and I like the online play. I buzzed through normal classic, and I unlocked Capt. Falcon, Ness and Marth by playing a ton of multiplayer with my friend. I love the new way to get trophies, so awesome, there's just so many features in the game. I have been using remote and nunchuk, and I think it's pretty good. I may give it a go with the gamecube and/or the classic controller.

From the manual, it says you can send levels to your friends, but doesn't mention anything about being able to upload/download your levels.

Didn't the smash dojo website have an article about uploading custom games to Nintendo, who would then pick and choose the best ones to release for download?

That’s right! You can use your Wi-Fi connection to send stages you’ve made to Nintendo! (However, you can’t submit repeatedly. Maybe just once per day?)
And a stage selected from the entire daily collection will be sent from Nintendo to your Wii. A stage made by someone else will come to you over the Internet once per day!
DUN DUN DUNNNNNN! That’s the shocking truth. This means you’ll be able to experience a new stage every day—the flavor of the day, if you will. However, the plan is for that stage to vanish once one day has passed. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime encounter.

I'm loving the new Smash Bros. I officially had my reserve down for 15 months (would have been 15 exactly on the 19th of March) and it is keeping me plenty busy. Also, by some miraculous act, my spring break coincides with the release. It is going to be an awesome week. Now I have a game I will actually replay and keep for the Wii.

man, is anyone else having as much fun with the spectator option as I am? Me and my friend spent like a solid hour last night, betting on people and then yelling at the t.v when our bets were losing, or, cheering them on when they were doing good.

My friends and I thought that was a bit of a problem with Melee, and it's amplified here. I'm on a 42" widescreen, and I feel like I do when I'm trying to play Geometry Wars, where I need to be like 2 feet from the screen to see everything that's going on.

Love the game, but that's really my biggest complaint. I've thought about it though, and I don't see how they could fix it without compromising other game features.

Turning off all the items makes a huge difference - but it eliminates a large part of the fun and strategy, which is fighting for the items as much as fighting each other. I tend to just pick stages with less going on though if it's my choice.

The Electroplankton stage and the Bit-Generation stickers are full of win.

Lo and behold, when I logged into the the WFC today, my Wii retrieved a new homerun video, a new screenshot, and two new stages. I guess I should have just been a little more patient. The only thing i don't like about this - apparently, every time you update the new stages you lose your previously downloaded levels. I don't really see how they could get around it, given the Wii's diminutive storage capacity, but it still sucks. What if we get some brilliant stage that's tons of fun? It's gone in a day, regardless? Doesn't seem right.

You should just be able to save the levels to SD card. Those things are so cheap nowadays.

Yeah, but Wii games don't allow for direct loading from them. Nintendo really needs to release some sort of update to fix that. With SSBM levels, VC games, and Wiiware games, that tiny HD fills up fast.

I stand by my original post; this game is truly epic. I haven't had this much fun with a game in years. Strong contender for game of the year, IMO.
