I Just wanted to confirm something here. I was planning to copy my Smash Bros save file to an SD card. My girlfriend hasn't really bothered to unlock anything yet so I was going to bring over my save file so we could play. Nope. Think again. "This file cannot be copied" it told me. Every other game save works, but not Smash. I have to bring my whole Wii over to play a fucking game.
    Why is that you think?

Probably has something to do with the level of challenge involved with the unlockables.

Hal Labs and Nintendo want people to EARN their unlockables, especially now that those items are reflected in an online multiplayer environment.

This isn't the first time a game with hundreds of unlockable characters, pictures, songs, etc. has copy-protection on the save file.

One example that comes to mind - all three of the TimeSplitters games block memory card save-transfer or copy, and all of those games have a wicked-large list of skill-based unlockables.

How far in adventure mode do you have to go to get to Sonic? He is the only character I haven't gotten that I know of. Unless Ganondorf is a character again

Sonic is obtained by completing the Space Emissary mode, or 300 brawl matches.

It only worked a handful of times, and I tried on and off for about three hours. I don't seem to be having any problems connecting to the actual wifi though, as it says I'm connected after only a few seconds.

Has anyone else been having these problems? Would the Wifi adapter help? What does it do exactly? Just "boost" the wireless signal? I don't ever have any problems downloading games on the VC, so do I need one? Would the LAN adapter work better (ie using a wired connection)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm in exactly the same boat as you. I've never had problems getting into matches on any other online Wii game (Medal of Honor, FIFA, Mario Strikers).

Ganandorf is a character in the game. You have to do a certain number of VS matches to unlock him.

There must be a faster way to unlock Sonic. We unlocked him not more than 2 hours after we got the game home. We played 4 player most of the night, but our match total couldn't have been more than 50 at most.

Actually, it's a Nintendo thing, not a HAL thing, and has nothing to do with the unlockables. Nintendo's policy is that player-data files for WFC enabled games cannot be copied. So - online games = no save data backup. Pretty damn lame, but there's Nintendo for you - global parent of every gamer everywhere. On an unrelated note, I love this game to death and can't stop playing it.

Yeah, I'm noticing that FAQ doesn't have everything exactly correct, as I unlocked MR. Game & Watch, R.O.B. and Gannondorf simply by playing through Space Emissary on normal.

I'm sure there are multiple variables that unlock certain characters that haven't been documented completely.

    Character unlocks: SPOILERS OMG

You can unlock everyone through Subspace Emissary. Toon Link, Wolf, and Jigglypuff are hidden in doors that appear after you beat SSE once.

You can also unlock everyone through Vs. mode matches:

    5 - Ness
    10 - Marth
    22 - Luigi
    50 - Falco
    70 - Captain Falcon
    100 - Lucario
    130 - Snake
    160 - R.O.B.
    200 - Ganondorf
    250 - Mr. Game&Watch
    300 - Sonic
    350 - Jigglypuff
    400 - Toon Link
    450 - Wolf

    Additional ways:

Ness: Reflect 5 projectiles (use Fox, Mario or Pit)
    Marth: Beat Classic mode
Luigi: Beat Classic mode without continuing
    Falco: Beat 100-man Brawl
Captain Falcon: Beat Classic mode in less than 12 minutes
Lucario: Beat all 5 Target Tests with one character
Snake: Play 15 Vs. matches on Shadow Moses Island
Ganondorf: Beat Classic on Hard with Link or Zelda (untested)
Game&Watch: Beat Classic with every starter (untested)
Sonic: Beat Classic with 10 characters (fastest method)
Jigglypuff: Beat 20 events (I had to beat 21 for some reason)
Toon Link: Some sites say beat Classic with Link, this did not work for me.
Wolf: Beat Boss Battles mode with Fox (untested)

Anyone know how to unlock assist trophies? The ATs from Custom Robo and Golden Sun seemed to just appear at random, and I know, at the very least, that I'm still missing the advance wars one.

Custom Robo is 100 vs. matches, Isaac is 200 and Advance Wars is 300. And you get Barbara from Band Bros. when you unlock 25 hidden songs.

I swear it didn't even take me ten playthroughs of Classic mode to get Sonic, but maybe I'm wrong.

When I got the game, the first thing I wanted to do was beat Classic mode with all the guys I start out with. I also made sure to go through every difficulty at least once (not every difficulty with every character, that'd take forever). And without doing any other modes but Classic, I got Falcon, Luigi, Sonic, Marth, and Lucario, I think in that order.

Right now I'm doing the SSE. I'm right at the end, and hopefully Falco, Ness, Ganondorf, ROB, and Mr. G-Dub will all be playable as soon as I finish, because I have all of them on my team.

you are correct beat classic mode with 10 characters and sonic will also appear.

I have a few grips here.

They no longer have the custom player matrix. I can't see how I do against my friends in VS mode anymore. THe have the basic character matrix, but not the custom one how sad. Grip #2, It counts stats from fights between a custom name and computer players in brawl. last big grip, it doesn't record stats from online play in a custom player profile. I was using a separate name for online, and it has no stats. I wanna know my online record.

Stupid me, I buy some USB connectors and I get home to discover that I need a LAN adapter first. *facepalm* Looks like I'm online-less for the next week or so.

Also, not to spoil anything, but damn, the last boss in SSE is hard.

Default Is Ike an over power character in Brawl?

I've been playing Brwal for a while and I've come to realize that Ike is realy strong. In fact I think he is to strong. Does anyone else agree on this?

    P.S.
    Captain Falcon still kicks ass

He was a pain for me at first, too. I played through SSE on normal difficulty, and he took me like five tries I think. I mean, he's got some cheap ass moves. Like when he goes to the middle of screen and gives you the red ring of death. I think that's an instant kill no matter what, because I'd try to move away from him and use my shield, and it always killed me anyway. It just took a little luck though, and some good up-smashers.

Ike is strong, but he's also slow. I think that hurts him in the long run. I don't have any problems with him yet.

Also, I think this would be better served as part of the Brawl thread.

I managed to beat him. Started off with some powerhouse characters (Dedede, Wario etc) using high jumps to avoid (most of) his attacks. By the time I had Falco I was ready to whomp him.

The only way I've found to avoid that ring was with Pkmn Trainer's Down + B switch.

One thing I have noticed about brawl is that every character can hold their own, basicaly everyone got a buff from melee. Ike is very powerful with some great attacks (his up smash, and b> for instance) however his recovery is terrible if you play people who edge guard since his ^b recovery depends of nobody hanging on the ledge. A good sonic player can destroy Ike, you should try it.
