Importance of the serial number? IDK...Originally Posted by Coleman
I can tell you that one reason youd want the unibios mod is so you can play the unedited JN version of the games. Thats all I know about modding the AES because I use a consolized MVS.

I don't know the specifics, but different ranges of serial numbers can mean different quality video output. Check the Neo-Geo Tech Forum as there should be plenty of info there.Originally Posted by Coleman
Some games, but not all, will allow you to add blood and bounciness back into the game by simply modifying the bios settings.Originally Posted by DeputyMoniker
The Unibios has cheats, though.
i think i am becoming more confused now. Different bios upgrades???

More neo geo experts frequent that place.
Have you already purchased an AES? If not then I strongly advise you to explore the benefits of a consolized MVS.

Just read there what it does.
I have one in my,NeoGeo MVS and it opens up a lot for the player
Basically the UniBIOS will allow you to switch between AES/MVS mode and Eng/Jpn language. It also allows you to turn 'blood mode' on or off. There's also a Jukebox to listen to game choonz and a GameGenie style cheat engine.
However, it is more useful for the MVS owner than the AES owner, tbh.
As for serial numbers, it only matters if you're planing to run the machine via RGB[Scart]. Basicaly, the first 90k units had banging RGB output. But then SNK changed this so you get better Composite/RF output but crapper RGB. So I'd certainly recommend either an RGB mod or, if you're in the USA, get Jeff Kurtz to install a NeoBITZ so you get good S-Video/Component output.
Anyway, welcome to the world of NeoGeo. Have fun.
I hope you enjoy spending all of your money because the Neo Geo becomes an addiction. My “Oh, I’ll buy a home system and a few games” became me buying a consolized MVS with 20 or so games (can’t forget the shock boxes and inserts)…around $3000 later I think I’m starting to slow down…
Take a hike, wang-broom!
I swear I can smell your stinky hands from here!
I think super gun is the way i am going to go - any advice i woould like to make my own and save some cash
