    Default Freeloader question

Does any one have a list of the gamecube games that aren't 100% compatible with the freeloader? I just ordered Shaman King Soul Fight. I hope it doesn't have problems with the freeloader.

Can't answer that, but you may want to consider a hard mod like the one described at the mmmonkey website. Then you got a NTSC/U and an NTSC/J machine, all in the same box.

More elegant than a swap disc!

What else does the freeloader do? Does it turn your gamecube into a Japanese one? Can I view the main gamecube menu? Will Japanese memory cards be viewable on an english menu if it doesn't?
    In Heaven, everything is fine.

You shouldn't have any problems running Japanese games on a US Cube cos they are both NTSC.

However you WILL need a different memory card for the Japanese games, as the ones you use currently can only have US/Europe saves on them.

Interestingly enough, I've been saving US games on a memory card that I bought from Japan.. although it was third party, so that will probably factor into its usefulness.

Heh... by "different" I meant "another". When you plug the card into the Cube for the first time, it formats it to the region of the Cube. Saves from US and PAL games can go on the same card, but Japanese games can't be saved to a previously US/PAL formatted card. You will need a separate card to save Japanese games on.

I put the stuff on my memory card 59 to my other one,and since it was completely empty,I have used it on my new import. The game itself asked if I wanted to format it, so I said yes. It is now a Japanese memory card of course, and when I look at its contents, it just displays random letters in the game save description. Guess it can't display kanji, katakana, or hiragana. Simpily put, memory cards are all the same, no matter the region. What you save on it determines the region. That is, until you rewrite a new region onto it.
    In Heaven, everything is fine.

Yes, the non-Japanese Cube font set can't display Japanese text, only romanji (English) letters.

It does display Japanese text with a hard mod, though!

I have to disagree, I have Japanese and American games saves on the same card and have never seen it try to format the card. I've heard of a few games that may require it's own special card, but most don't need it from what I've heard. I may only have the last two Naruto games, but they've saved fine and have behaved with the US saves on the card. It's probably a precautionary move to have them on seperate memory cards, but it's not really required.

It's just a safety measure. When you save with Freeloader, it seems to have its own proprietary way of doing things that allows saves from different regions on the card. Sometimes the Japanese game WILL ask you to format the card cos it can't read it properly as well (Chaos Field is one for sure).

So I run three different cards for my switched NTSC Cube: ones for US games, ones for Japanese games, one for Freeloader (PAL) games.

to play japanese games on a US cube u dont need a freeloader theyre both ntsc. like way back on the snes the onlything that stoped you from playing the japanese games was those little notches so the cart couldnt go in all the way. the rest of the system was the same(ntsc)
