Default Ever used a console as a CD player? Was this important?

I was browsing eBay as usual...when I found THIS.

I asked myself: "Have I ever used my PlayStation as a CD player? Maybe one or two times, because I was curious, but did I buy it because it was able to read audio CDs? What about my 3DO? Sega-CD?"

Have you ever used a console as a CD player intensively?
Which was the best CD player for his time and how much did it count this ability when you decided to buy the console?

The PS2 had an pretty good impact on DVD market, but as for audio CDs maybe it was too late and CD players were already well diffused when the first CD systems were released. I am talking about the Italian market. What about the rest of the world?

There was a recent thread here about those 1st-run PS1 systems - apparently they've got really god audio capabilities.
I picked one up a while back, and have been using it as my main CD player since moving house a fortnight ago. Sounds pretty good, but 95% of music I play is from records instead of CDs anyway

    Hey

I use my Saturn as a CD player and karaoke machine often. And I think it has the coolest visualizer of any system.

Ever since the PSX, I've used my CD-based systems as the CD component in my sound setup. Beats buying a standalone player, I guess.

I have only used it a couple of times and that was mostly just to see if it worked.

When I was 14 and had a Dreamcast, it was my only CD player. I used it all the time to play CD's. This was a crucial time in my life where my musical tastes were changing and I was actually buying my own music. Dreacast was always there for me.

    Yes

I used my original Saturn a lot for playing CDs for a while.

Me and a friend used to use the original PSX for playing music a lot too.

Now I use my overpriced PC for music since the disc drive rarely gets used and it has a shitty videocard. might as well use it for something other than irritating youngling fanboys on the net

Can't say I've ever used a console as a CD player. I do however, use the Xbox solely for Xbox Media Centre.

Not a whole lot, But if you count recording music onto the xbox via CDs, that has been used more, Although i have only like 50,000 blocks of memory used for music on my xbox.

And, you know something cool? The PS2 reads Sega CD games as music CDs, And the Sega CD reads saturn games as Music CDs.

I think that when they first came out and CD players weren't nessassarily a household item, I might have used it a few times.
Even funnier though, is when my brother said we could listen to the Twisted Metal 2 (PS1) soundtrack if we put it in our CD player in our car.
    Yeah, not so much.

    I've never bothered.

I use my PS2 as a DVD player, though.
I go online sometimes, but ... everyone's spelling is really bad, and it's ... depressing.

I've used my Playstation as a CD player a few tiimes when my JVC shelf system took a dump on me. The Playstation sounded great through the JVC. I've since bought another stereo and haven't used a console for CDs since.
