I think I remember using the original PlayStation and the Dreamcast in the past a few times as CD players.
Once again.. I ask.. WHERE on the Sega Saturn.. is a "light show"? I have THREE Saturns and I've never seen a visualizer on ANY of them (Unless you're all talking about those little "spinning box" thingies in the CD player interface.).Originally Posted by bangtango

I had the menu memorized that I could navigate through it while the tv was off. When I upgraded to the Turbo Duo again this was my CD player until 1996 when I finally got a new stereo with a cd player. During my high school I had built a large music cd collection and listened to them all though my Turbo CD players.
There isn't a light show on any Saturn to my knowledge (maybe on the Hi-Saturn or something). All there is is that space ship thing. Which was pretty spiffy back in the day.Originally Posted by scorch56
Jaguar CD is unique in that it's only useful as a CD player. :P At least its "Virtua Light Machine" is rather neat.
Turbo CD was my first CD player. I got a CD boombox shortly thereafter, but would still use the Turbo CD sometimes. When I first got a Saturn, I'd play CDs in it just for the space ship nonsense. Later, when I had a Playstation, I bought MTV Music Generator and found some enjoyment in the CD playing aspects of that game (namely the random video generator). Oddly, I don't remember ever using my Sega CD for audio CDs.
Is it just me, or is Dreamcast terrible for playing music CDs? It always makes the music sound distorted.

Never.
BUT
Earlier this week my Cd player packed it in and I'v been using my Saturn.
Seems O.k. exept I can't listen to them while playing games.
My bro uses my xbox to rip his songs onto, and then puts it as the small pip on our big screen while he plays like madden or other games that dont require the sound.
I didn't own a CD player until almost two years ago, so when I got my first music CD, the Guns and Roses Greatest Hits CD from about two years ago, I played it in my Saturn. Then I played a Helloween CD I bought shortly thereafter in my Saturn, too. I didn't use my Saturn as my CD player for long, though. I got my boombox with CD functionality 23 months ago, for free
I use my consoles for CD-players all the time, as I don't actually own a CD player.
I have found the Sega Saturn to be the best console CD player ever. So many features, great output and high resistance to scratches.
I used the 3DO CD player a lot in college because it had a cool light show that would display on the TV while playing music. I remember you could control it a bit, but not too much.
