You can't erase the EPROMs accidently because a write enable situation is impossible on these carts. The pins on the eproms are held in read-only mode (hard wired to Vcc).

Also, most EPROMs require much higher voltage to write. These carts are stuck running 5v!

Yeah, I was skeptical about that for years, but I had good reason to be. I specifically asked Ken Lobbmany years ago, who was one of the main directors of Product Development at the time about the cart, and he insisted it was fake. That was my big basis for trying to think of "what" else it could be.

So if the old one is the real deal then whats the big deal with this one? Maybee it doesn't have the piracy lock in place but other than that whats to be had?

We won't know until someone gets their mits on it, now will we?

As for the benefits of it, if this cart matches the previous proto, we'll have a direct link of the cart through a nintendo employee and it'll finally set the record straight. On the other hand, i didn't think there was much doubt left after nintendo released the Mother 1+2 gameboy game over in japan?

After reading that article everything changes. Without looking into any of the details I always thought that the old one was fake based on what DreamTR said. If the old was real and I think anyone who reads the article will believe it is then I can't see there being anything differences we couldn't predict. We know it started out as Mother. We know what the final looks like. So its either a final or somewhere in between Mother and final. The article details the change process in great detail (awesome article BTW) so really what are we going to find?

Now the Zelda 3 proto. Now that could be major with even slight changes. Has to be my favorite Zelda of them all. Have you looked into the Zelda 3 yet? Love to see some screen shots.

Its been quite a while since ive played it, but im pretty sure you can pick up stuff from the very begining. You can throw the cans inside the house where you start if im not mistaken.

    Screenshots would be nice anyway

Regardless of screens, the only way you will know if it is different if someone who is familiar with the game gets it/plays it, and he sells it...

NintendoAGE - The best NES database engine available on the net!

My Collection - Well, kinda. One of these days I will actually get a pic of the whole collection and post it on there. Until then, I only have a few games in there with some additional collection info stuff.

Hehe i guess someone will be pissed because i said that. I just thought that an Earthbound proto would be worth more than $2000.

jajaja: You're REALLY overestimating the value of these protos.....

Heck, a LOT of people on these forums are causing him to overestimate their value because of the "find" in general! What irks me the most is that half the people posting how much he can "make" or the "value" of these games don't even collect protos, or know the market value in general. Not saying YOU, jajaja, but this can cause a stir by those of us that DO want to get the stuff, and now have a different idea of what to think about the prices to come.

I've had a Zelda I NES proto for many years. Best offer ever on that was $1000, and that's ONLY because it's Zelda I.

Earthbound was DUMPED already. No one in their right mind is going to pay that much for Earthbound, regardless of it being unreleased. It's already available on the web, and you can get a repro for $40!

I don't blame jollerancher for putting them up and wanting to get more money out of them, but because of you he is upping the value of these to a point where he's not going to know what the heck they are worth.

EDIT: I think someone DID pay that much for Earthbound, WOE IS ME!

Zelda III COULD be worth 2-3k but only if its a different game. A final proto would sell for 300-500 I would think.

Earthbound I dunno....there are crazy earthbound guys out there. Could hit 1k but I would think 500 would be a better guess.

A good way to find the value is to list really really high and take best offers.
