Default What silly names have you heard people call VG's and accs.?

Heh, the topic of Handheld Vs. Console poll got me thinking about this, here's my contribution:

Game controller, pad or joystick being called a:

    "paddle" or "remote"

Sometimes it makes me laugh inside a bit, or it might me cringe slightly, depending on my mood.
But gawd I hate it when someone at a flea market call a controller a "remote".

So what crazy names have you heard in your travels for video games and they're accessories?

Some years ago i was waiting for my mom to pick me up. I was playing snake on my old Nokia 3310 and a guy walks by and into an elevator. 10 min later he came back and i was still sitting and playing Snake. He says: Are you still sitting on your ass playing Nintendo He said it in a humoristic way tho hehe.

Well, my Mum still refers to them as 'toys'. Apparently I need to stop playing with my toys and get a life. What Mum doesn't relise is that I do have a very active social life, and gaming is my hobby. Oh, and I should stop watching daft Japanese cartoons too, apparently.

At times I think she'd rather I was a beer-swilling, football watching, cultureless chav (in a fake Burberry cap). Although this in her eyes is a 'normal bloke'.

But then, my Mum is a raging alcoholic with no life, who sits at home all day watching daytime telly. Hmmmm.....

Judging from your message, I can say with certainty you're British!

Most people 'round these parts call any game cart a "Nintendo". They don't know about game CD/DVDs. :P

Kind of similar, but when I was younger I always read 'Famicom' as 'Fiacom' for quite some time. One day I just stopped and was like 'Waaaait....'

What used to bug me was people who pronounced Atari AH-TARE-EE.

As well, in college I lived with these 2 girls who were infatuated with mario styled platformers, but they'd refer to the game screen and each level as 'pages'. IE "Whoo, on to the next page" or "Man this page is the hardest" or if they fell in a hole and died "Dammit, I fell off the page again".
I asked them, why do you call them that? worlds, stages, levels, even waves if your old school enough. They just answered that that's what they've always called them.

    Alex Kidd

I can only think of one game that refered to each scene as a page and that was Arabian... which they had never heard of...

Well, my sister and mother both call any system I have a "station." I guess it comes from the Playstation.

    Heh, some great replies already

I had a friend who used to call coins in SMB "pennies"

"I just need a couple more pennies for a free man"

I had a funny moment while I was in gamestop the other day and this one person was asking about joysticks for the xbox. He was obviously looking for just controllers, but the clerk took it as he was looking for arcade sticks. They went back and forth, both being very confused for a minute and then finally the clerk figured out he was referencing controllers as joysticks.

In the early days here in Germany they called 'cartridges' ....'cassettes', well, even nowadays those stupidos at N-Zone magazine still call GB carts 'cassettes'.

Well once i said to someone that i see atari stuff a lot (or was that not so often) And then she said "A-Tour-ee?"

Also It's dumb that people around here call genesis systems "Segas" But then again about 5 weeks ago at a yard sale someone called A Genesis (Model 1) A master system.. I didn't go telling him it was a genesis, though..

I think the worst for me, is when I was little my Grandma always called my GameBoy a PlayBoy...

The funny thing is, she still calls it by that name. You can't help but laugh when your in a crowded resturant(sp), with your family. And your Grandma asks if you brought your PlayBoy with you.

Aside from calling cartridges "tapes," not much, really.

Some sellers on the German eBay call joysticks and controllers "game consoles."
I'm always looking for new boxed NES accessories. If you've got any for sale, shoot me a PM!

Once a guy in Cash Converters told my mate he believed that the cartridge port in a Saturn let you play Megadrive games.

I had great glee in setting that one straight..

I used to pronounce Coleco "coh luh coh".

Also, my dad consistenly calls my PS2 a "game station", and my Genesis a "Game Genie"
