    Default systems with no regions

I was wondering if we could compile a list of all the systems that have no region lock outs, since I have seen this topic come up for individual systems before. I will add to the list as they are added.

    ie...
    Amiga computers
    Amiga CD32
    Apple II computers
    Atari Jaguar
    Atari Lynx
    Atari ST computers
    Atari 7800
    Atari VCS/2600 (not PAL)
    Commodore 64
    Magnavox Odyessey
    Matel Intellivision
    MB Vectex
NEC Turbografx/PC Engine CD's (excluding system cards)
    Nintendo Gameboy (all variants)
    Nintendo DS / lite
    Panasonic 3DO
    PC computers
    Phillips CD-i
    Pioneer Laseractive
    Sega Master System
    Sega Gamegear
    SNK Neo Geo AES
    SNK Neo Geo CD
SNK Neo Geo Pocket / Color
    XL
    Yaroze

The exceptions to this rule are set top-to-handheld adaptations, i.e. the Sega Nomad and the TurboExpress/PC-Engine GT.

Also, on TG-CD, what about CDs that require a certain arcade card version? Possibly a silly question

Nah, fair point. You're not playing any Arcade CDs on a US Turbo without an adaptor/region mod for the Arcade Card to work.

And technically, early MD/Gen games weren't totally 'region free' - you're not putting NTSC-J MD carts in a US/UK system without chopping the cart slot or using a pin extender.

Yeah, nearly (or maybe I did?) roughed up my nice like-new Contra The Hard Corps cart trying to put it in a Genesis. NOOOO!!!

What's the use of posting Pocket and GBA variations? Those are the same hardware. We could go crazy posting variations all day, sheesh.

No Playstation console is region free. You may have been able to do the swap-trick on early models, but this certainly isn't official. Same with the Saturn swap trick: it allows you to play imports/boots, but it's far from official.

However, can someone confirm if Yarozes are region free please?

Vectrex accepts carts from all countries. GCE for US, MB for Europe, and Bandai for Japan.

I think both models of the Treamcast (4:3 & widescreen) are supplied region-free as standard?

If you cut off some parts of the cartridge slot, you could play Megadrive games on some of the earliest Genesis systems (before they added the TMSS)

I believe the Lynx is region free--at least my experience has shown that.....

The Mark III uses a differently shaped cart (with a different number of pins) to the Western Master System, and the games are thus incompatible. Korean Gam*Boy carts are compatible with Japanese Mark III or SMS systems though.

All Western Masters Systems (US/Euro/Brazilian/Australian) are universal, but a tiny handful of games either don't play or are glitchy on a US system.

That's not true either - the TMSS license check is totally seperate to the region coding, and the later (post-'92) region-locked MD games will not play on any Genesis system unless it's been modded or you use an adaptor.

The only thing the license check does is prevent the early unlicensed EA/Ballistic games (Zany Golf, Ishido etc) from running on any Genesis/MD system that has the license screen.

I saw above that someone put atari 2600...while not lockout you will get a rolling screen, or off colors on PAL games.

Also Atari Jaguar is region free

On the subject of Playstations, PSP is region free iirc. 3DO is as well.

Never knew the Master System was region free though (15 years after first buying mine...). Does this extend to the Master Gear Convertor?
