Default Is it necessary to own the pack-in title?

This is more of a personal preference than a right or wrong answer.

I ask it since people might get their systems used or sell off some of their library over time.

For systems that actually had a "true" pack-in title, do you absolutely have to own it?

Are there any Genesis owners who don't have either Altered Beast or a Sonic game? NES users who do not own Mario and/or Duck Hunt? 2600 users who do not have Combat? Jaguar users who are missing Cybermorph? Panasonic 3DO (FZ-1) owners who don't own Crash and Burn? Super NES gamers who don't own Mario World?

Please note I am not talking about more recent systems which come with bundles. I'm referring back to the good old days when you used to get a game in the box (and sometimes even a second controller).

You get the picture. So what do you think? Is it important to have those type of games if you own the systems? I'd be interested in hearing opinions whether you already own the systems (and the pack-in game) or not.

No pack-ins for me. I don't have Altered Beast, and my copy of Sonic is a Japanese one.

However, I'll certainly make sure I get SMW (again) for the SuperFamicom. I must have completed it with all 96 exits 15 times or more, but it's still an essential title. Same with Mario64, I'll be sure to get that one again too.

Well I certainly think that you need to own the pack-in game to have a complete game system. I have a boxed launch Genny along with the copy of Altered Beast that game with it. Now if I didn't have the game, then I can't very well say that the Genny is complete.

But do you need to own the pack-in games just on general principle? Nah. Look at the Genesis. That system had a buttload of pack-in games, especially later in it's life. Altered Beast is a cool game, and Sonic rocks, so you should own them so that you can play them.

In my case, only if they're worth playing. And with most of the systems I own, they were.

Any boxed system I own has to have the pack in game with it, if it did indeed come with one.

For my own collection i demand to have them to call them COMPLETE ! if any pack ins are missing then it is not complete ! thats my own opinion !!! no matter what if the game stinks so what still have it for completion reasons ! but some pack in games arent that bad heh ...

I tell ya man. Whenever it's easy to get the pack-in title for a console like the Genesis or something like that, the game definintely should be in there for it to be called complete.
But, I tells ya, for something like the Channel F or something like that, where the pack-in game is impossible to find, that's a little different.
