Very interesting ebay scam.

So, I bid up to $5400 on this. I lost at the end. I really need a car as mine is dying and I unfortunately have a small fortune tied up in video games and not in liquid cash.

About an hour after the auction ended I got this message from the sender:

I'm the eBay seller of the:Toyota : Echo
Item number:4651355206 at your last bid of US $5,402.00

I have just been contacted by the eBay staff who informed me that
the winning bidder of my item was rejected for security reasons or
suspension.The eBay policy automatically proclaims you to be the winner by default.
I need your agreement on this so I can contact eBay to confirm you that you are the
winner,otherwise I will relist the item.I am sorry for the
inconvenience,but I need an answer as soon as posible.
Your last given bid prior to being outbid is taken into consideration.

If you are interested just reply me at n.kristn@yahoo.com and
include your eBay user ID and Item number you bided on, to have it officially
done through eBay.

My advice to the scammer.

1. It's not very convincing since the message states it's coming from someone other than the seller

2. Your e-mail address is: n.cristn@yahoo.co.uk and the car was sold in Illinois USA.

BTW, what could the scammer possibly gain if I had responded to his e-mail? He didn't even ask for my password.

This type of scam is rampant on Ebay motors right now. If you consented and sent him your User ID, he would offer to set up a private auction for you and nab you there.

Ebay has been emailing warnings about this(one this week and one 2 weeks ago).

Might be off-topic a bit, but the auction states that its' a manual transmission, but in the pic I'm seeing an automatic shifter.
