Default Zelda: Twilight Princess GC version won't support 480p...

When did I miss this little tidbit from E3?

The latest issue of Game Informer says that only the Wii version of Twilight Princess will support 480p...the Gamecube version will not. I guess our two choices are:

1.) Buy the GC version and try to ignore the fact that it looks like the screen is covered in mud.

2.) Wait until we can actually find a Wii sometime next year.

Oh well, enough bitching...still sucks though.

    3) Preorder Wii, preorder Wii version of Zelda, pick up on launch day.

Still cheesy that they won't include it on the GC.

It is cheesy but I must say.....without 480p does not look like mud, Looks pretty damn good even without it...and yes I have both a high definition set and an older style television...

I saw this as well, and was kinda suprised. The Cube should be able to run that game at 480p easily. The good news is that even though the Wii isn't going to be doing High Definition resolutions, it's very possible that the vast majority of games will run in 480p, and probably have a decent widescreen mode. It might have a guide like 360 where you select 16:9 or 4:3 in the Wii's system settings.

Some people will say that 480p is a dud, and that the Wii should be High Def all the way, but to be honest, 480p isn't that bad. Sure I would love it to output a native 1080p, but beggars can't be choosers. I just hope that 96% or more games on it will be 480p and 16:9 natively.

For those of us "crazy" enough to still be using S-video on our 'cube, 480p doesn't mean anything at all, does it?

So option 4) Buy it on GC like you planned to anyway, don't notice anything different from every other 'cube/PS2/Xbox game you own...

    hahahaha

Yeah, Nintendo told us and told us that the GameCube version wasn't being held back because of the Wii.

    BUT THEY WERE LYING.

At least it seems that way. Who wants to take a shot at putting some spin on this one?

Anyway, I'll still buy it if it's halfway decent.

I'm using S-vid on my cube, and I'll be damned if I don't buy it. Really is a non-issue if the game looks better than 95% of GC games (which I assume it will).

Hmm...wasn't Nintendo's assertion simply that TP wasn't being held up for the Wii release? I guess this news doesn't make that misleading, then, as it's not really related.

Damn. All six people that own the GC component cables and an HDTV will be crushed.

You're talking about the Wii, right? The VGA cables I have for my GameCube and Xbox will not show a picture unless it is a progressive signal. If you have a cable that converts interlaced video to VGA it will work though.

Considering the forum you're now reading...I think a lot of people here do.

The general pissyness of some of the replies is bizarre.

I'm not saying a GC with S-video or composite cables is shit. I'm simply saying component cables with 480p looks a hell of a lot better on my TV. It's strange that Nintendo decided to not include progressive scan with their (potentially) biggest game ever...especially since every single 1st party title has had progressive scan (whether the box says so or not).

Probably one of the big reasons why it doesn't feature 480p on the Cube version, is because of the fact that so many Cube's in the USA can't do 480p anyways, since the new units came out that don't have the digital output on the back. If they really hyped up the fact that it was 480p, alot of recent Cube owners would be wondering how the fuck they would see the 480p, because they unfortunately have a stripped down Cube model that doesn't have the digital output.

In other words, if you ever plan to buy a used Cube, make sure to check the back for that digital A/V out. In the long run, those will be more valuable.

I don't know, it seems odd to end the trend of 1st party 480p games. I'm taking a "wait and see" approach to this. Even though I don't even own a component cable tv ;p

    Oh, yeah.

Actually, when I thought about it more, I realized that this wasn't necessarily Nintendo getting caught in a lie (fixing up the GC release which won't have 480p so it looks comparable to the Wii version is not the same thing as delaying it for the Wii version's sake).

So basically, you're going to get a better looking game at the expense of a wee bit of extra resolution. Oh noes!

I read this in GI too, but I hope its a typo. And even though I love GI to death (proud subscriber since '98, woo hoo) I wouldn't put it past them, they seem to bandy about A/V jargon pretty carelessly sometimes. I'm optimistically hoping they meant the GC version wont support WIDESCREEN while the Wii version WILL, which makes much more sense and is consistent with most of the post E3 internet buzz. Then again if GI is right, then I'm pissed! Yes, I am a proud owner of an early model GC and component cables and was very much looking forward to playing TP in 480p this winter before shelling the bucks for a Wii. Here's hoping GI is wrong.

I am the great Zeldaholico!! I need TP in 480p for my Game- Cube!!

Nintendo are being a bunch of greedy fukks! I think damn near if not every first party title of a major series has been 480p.... Looks like they are going to change things all of a sudden now? Assholes.
