I picked up a Halo Edition Xbox yesterday

That's why they sold it with a game instead of just the console.

The original xbox was sold, then returned (maybe it was defective, maybe little johnny just didn't want it). Microsoft tested it, repaired it if necessary, but was then unable to sell it as new. To get around that little 'law' problem, they made it a bundle, they threw in a game. Different SKU means different product, which means it can be sold as 'new' again. It's actually quite common in the gaming industry. When you take a loss on the hardware, you really don't want to throw the systems out if you don't have to.

I also believe that some (not all) of the forza bundles were returned in this manner and MS is trying to depleate their stock.

I've had a Halo Xbox since 2004 which I bought new and it is way superior to the ugly black one. You can see inside it, and the LED light looks a lot cooler on it.

Then there's the Halo logo on the right corner. And finally, instead of the jewel on the top of the system being green and silver, on my Xbox it is a much better looking black and silver.

When my friends come over to play Halo or something they're always jealous of my cool Xbox. And I sure hope that ProgrammingAce is full of bullshit, because I don't like the fact that I bought a new Xbox that's really just a repaired old one in a new shell. Even though it has never given me problems...and I've softmodded it.

i have one...as well as a regular black xbox and the lime green dew u xbox....yes, that makes 3 different colored xboxes for me....

I have one and it has been flawless. Too bad you have to buy that extra stuff to make it play DVD's, otherwise it would be my main hookup (TV has two A/V hookup locations, but one of them has a broken A/V piece stuck in there that I can't take out).

But the Halo Xbox looks solid and powerful. With the Xbox 360 compatibility issues I can't imagine ever giving it up.

The systems seem to work pretty well to me, i have 4 of them. I wouldn't let their 'status' bother me.

I have a halo box that i use as file server that probably hasn't been shut down for 6 months.
