    Default Disc Read error PS2

Hi- I have never had an interest in PS2, but lately I have seen the great PS2 only games for it (IE God of War)

So I bought one for 50 bucks from a friend, which included the PS2, AV and power cables, and the original box and manuals.

I got it cheap because he said it couldnt read discs, and I have heard of the DRE before. So I bought it and thought I would be able to fix it no problem-

    I was wrong.

I have read 2 different guides on it(high rated guides) and neither worked for me.

Can anyone please help me- I would appreciate it alot.

It is a version 4 PS2 btw(8 screw with electric shock warning stamped on bottom)

If all else fails, have Sony fix it.

I know God of War struggles on many older models of PS2. I don't really understand why, but I think it is to do with the way the disc is read, and how the content is streamed as you play.

I know my PS2 really struggled with it. I experienced freezing and crashes. I have never had a problem with any other PS2 game before or since.

No point in trying to manually adjust and fix the laser, it's just going to go out again. You're going to want to replace the entire assembly and that could cost ~$45-$50 or so.
