Interesting booklets/manuals for old games

Is it legal to post booklet scans of video games? I just got a ton of classic DOS games today (I'll post them tonight. ) and they're complete 100% and near mint, if not mint. One in particular comes with a hardback book to go with the story and looks really nice! Others have some posters and maps and I'd like to post them on here and possibly other places if MODs and others don't mind. Figured it'd be something interesting to share with others because I find it amusing to look at.

I was fumbling around in some old DOS threads and never got a response with this (It was posted in the old classic computer gaming Forum Du Jour). I still wouldn't mind uploading some maps and manuals but the real issue was that some of the older games require you to know what's printed on a page to get pass the intro screen (as a method to prevent piracy) but most have become abondoned or free. Some games have been re-published with or without the older pack-ins but I'm not giving away the classic game free, just access to scans of manuals and their art (which is another potential legal issue). Also, is there a section of DP that would take or use the scans for archival purposes?

Before you go to too much trouble, you might want to check out ReplacementDocs or MobyGames to make sure someone hasn't already taken care of them already. There's also this ambitious new project that may interest you.

I still haven't done too much with those ColecoVision manuals I mentioned a while back. Scanning them is a daunting task, especially since some of them are thick, multilingual affairs. (Of course I have to scan them all! How could I sleep at night after uploading a scan that did not include the Polish version of the Donkey Kong Junior CV manual?!)

Thanks for the link. That's quite a task being planned and will take awhile to reach an achievable amount of scans, but it's possible. I'll need to contact Special T later today or tomorrow. I really doubt there will be many problems with piracy but it's just whenever I look up old games online there are so many different websites I must visit before I get a good representation of the game.

There are some really cool goodies that came with games back in the day, ever seen the ColecoVision Tapper instrutions? I have it in a frame in the guest crapper

Some Lynx games had manuals that unfolded into posters, w/ the box art poster 1 side & inst. on the flip.

Wow...that Tapper insert looks great.

Okay, here's one I'm curious about: Does anybody have an opened box copy of Custer's Revenge for the 2600, and if so, what, if any, extras are inside? Mini-mag? Coupons for Super 8mm loops of Seka and John Holmes? I have a copy of this game but it's sealed. Normally I don't really care about opening sealed games but because I'd rather not potentially let the porn genie loose in the house I'm making an exception and keeping this one wrapped up.
