Default Battle of the 2600 Burgers (Pressure Cooker vs. Burgertime)

Just like the title says! Burgertime gives you an impressive 5 screens, and Pressure Cooker sees how well you can follow directions, and if you know your colors.

So? Which is your favorite of the two popular VCS Burger games? I personally pick Pressure Cooker because I think it has a larger overall funfactor, but many disagree and say Burgertime is more fun, and is impressive on the 2600. What do you think?

Pressure Cooker; no contest. One of the best VCS games in my opinion. Great graphics as well. Of all the Activision titles, I think this one may be the best looking.

For the sake of the 2600, I'll say Pressure Cooker, even though it annoys me a bit. I can never line up my chef quite right to bounce back the wrong foods, and then I usually end up grabbing a food I don't want, and then I have to put it somewhere where it can't be used, and then I have to forfeit a burger, and ARRGGGHHH!

    Still a good game, though.

However, the Intellivision version of Burgertime owns all.

I've always been a BurgerTime guy, myself. I think it might have something to do with it being on the Intellivision and me playing it significantly more than Pressure Cooker though.

Agreed! Although many of Activision's titles are very colorful, my favorite in terms of color use are Pressure cooker and Keystone Kapers.

Side note: Try playing Pressure cooker on a black & white setting. Good luck!

    BurgerTime all the way.

Funny enough, I adore most of the Activision library and Pressure Cooker is one of the exceptions.

I think you just hold down the button for insta-bounceback.

Burgertime is in my top 2 list of "Most unenjoyable video game experiences ever"

Pressure Cooker is one of my favorite 2600 games. I love just how frantic it can be.

    What about:
    Kaboom! Fast Food Edition
    It has Burgers too!

    I guess it doesn't count.

My vote went to Burgertime. I have played Pressure Cooker but I never seem to get into the gameplay. Of course Burgertime being an arcade machine that I love doesn't hurt.

Well if the cart was available (or the BIN for that matter)... But it isn't. I really hate when people release like 20 copies of a cart over on AA and they get snapped up within like 5 minutes. At least use a lottery system or something.

I know. I agree. I know they want to keep the game rare, but why not make a 100 or 200 copies?

Sorry that this thread is getting a bit derailed, but I don't understand the point in "keeping the game rare". If I went through all the trouble of making an Atari VCS game, I would want as many people to play it as possible.

Back on topic, I could have SWORN that I had Burgertime, but I can't find it!

Absolutely. But if it's just a hack of an existing game with different graphics, then does it really matter as much?

Burgertime on the 2600 is waaay too slow (like a lot of Mattel games for the 2600).

    Pressure Cooker is a blast.

    Pressure Cooker for me.
Dude, they should have seriously put Kissinger and Nixon in their own reality/sit-com show. It would be like the odd couple.

Nixon: Is that chairman Mao on the phone?
Kissinger: Yes, but you can't speak to him, you're too drunk right now.

I usually post on both Digital Press and AtariAge when I am releasing a new cartridge. Somehow I didn't do that with this one and I will make sure that I don't forget in the future. I keep the release numbers low to keep down the amount of work and money that I have to put out to make these. It is not done to inflate the worth or brag that I have something that nobody else does. If 50 people wanted one I am sure that I could handle 50 copies. The problem is that nobody wants to pay in advance for something and then wait 6-8 weeks to recieve it (see Beggar Prince topic). I can't fund that many copies without pre-payment. And I don't do this for profit and often end up taking a loss on each release. I admit that I do shamelessly drop mention of my hacks in other topics, Like I did here. But it was on topic, sort of.

Digital Press was the host website of my first release that got me started doing this. You can always check out my website for advance notice of releases.

It is just a hack of an existing game but it is not just graphics. You have 4 different items to catch that alternate.

Pressure Cooker for me. I have no nostalgia for that game since I didn't first play it until the late 1990s, but now it ranks up there with my all-time favorite 2600 titles.

The 2600 version of Burgertime just doesn't do much for me, probably because I've been spoiled by the arcade and ColecoVision versions.

^^^What he said. And I'll add that it's also the most underrated Activision game out there. You always hear about HERO, Kaboom, and the like, but Pressure Cooker is right up there with them in the elite league of VCS games (with Frostbite, the other forgotten gem)

Another Pressure Cooker vote here. I love Burger Time but not so much the 2600 version.
