Can't help but think maybe you're getting a little too over excited. It looks like a first person dungeon crawl... I don't mean to suggest that it doesn't look promising, but still.

Could've done without the OMG SUPER AMAZING (but not really) CGI and SUPER CEL SHADED ANIME (which is the bane of artistic progress in Japan - eh it was probably inbetweened in Korea or someplace anyway).

Okay, the game does look like King's Field with some stylus action going on. I wouldn't compare it to Oblivion, but it does look fun.

Reminds me of Ultima Underworld, or more recently, Arx Fatalis. Especially the "draw the rune to cast magic" part.

I'd be interested if the dungeons are true labyrinths (multiple paths that not only dead-end, but lead back upon themselves frequently) and not simple linear mazes like 95% of RPGs these days.

I think I read about this in ONM (The Official Nintendo Magazine in the UK), and I think the developer described this as... wait for it... Oblivion for the DS - but quite different, of course. It certainly sounded interesting, and they've improved the graphics a little since I last saw this.

I agree with you, muffinman. The DS is home to such a great mix of games from so many console generations. There is, quite literally, something for everybody!

I've been waiting for this one too. You can never have too many dungeon crawls...

I've been very excited about this game ever since it was first announced a few months ago. Looks absolutely awesome!

Just as a sidenote, the soundtrack for the game will be written by none other than the great Yasunori Mitsuda!

EGM ripped it apart in their reviews.
Mostly just play Nintendo 64. If you've got games PM me! Cart only.

EGM is a very unreliable review source. But this game doesn't look that great.

As long as you know their biases, EGM's reviews are worthwhile. I still like reading three different people's ideas of a game.

Combat looks pretty cool. Though that video looked like a trailer for a straight video 80's movie.

DS Oblivion is percicely what I thought when I first saw this game, too.

It looks quite interesting. Plus I love dungeon crawlers.

I was pretty pumped for this and here's my impression after playing it:

Excellent, if you know what you are getting.

Please ignore the Oblivion-on-DS comparisons, as it will really shoot up your expectations for the title. It is actually closer to the older Kings Field titles on psx, but more linear. You don't exactly have the huge open world like Oblivion, and though you do level up by real-world action (i.e. leveling up sword by using it all the time) it is far more limited in scope and can be reduced to an exp grind.

BUT it plays smoothly, has a decent production value, includes two completely different stories (a kiddie beginner-type story and a more difficult and 'mature' adventure) that play like two separate games on the same engine (they are, and are on cell phones in Japan) and seems more engaging than most dungeon crawls.

If you want a FP dungeon crawl and can tone down your expectations after Oblivion, I highly recommend it.
