    Are the cartridge(s) dirty?

I know that if I try to play with a dirty cartridge, the SMS won't "read" it, and instead it'll boot to the Enjoy/Hang-On screen. I would recommend cleaning the cart connectors with rubbing alcohol, and then trying again.

Take a credit card (Or any plastic card) and wrap it in one layer of kitchen paper. (Too thick and it won't fit in the slot) Put some alcohol on it, then slide it up and down in the cartridge slot. Going sideways will damage the pins. If that doesn't work, try bending the pins back into place.

Just want to say THANK YOU for emphasizing this...

...dunno how many systems (especially NES's) I've come across with botched cleaning jobs because the pins caught a cleaning surface and were bent and twisted. A VERY thin rag wrapped around a VERY thin paint scraper works well too - as does a NEW toothbrush.
