Would you use positive or negative polarity for a non-Sega AC adapter? My guess is negative.

Not sure, but if you need a power supply, I believe you can just use a Genesis 2 AC adapter (#2103).
Might be an excuse to get a Genesis.
It's positive.
Yes the Gen model 2 brick works on the GG.Originally Posted by PingvinBlueJeans

Hi guys,
I am trying to figure out the polarity of a Game Gear I bought from ebay. It's an American model.
I had an European model whose polarity was negative, just like the European Master System 2. However, my Master System AC adapter won't even fit this American Game Gear.
Anyhow, written behind the Game Gear is the following: "AC ADAPTOR: USE 2103 AC ADAPTOR ONLY".
Can anyone with a Game Gear please verify for me the polarity of that adapter, if the reference matches. I would be greatly appreciated. (In a retro store, here in Portugal, they only have European models, that have a bigger power jack.)
I'm not sure if these differences are regional, or temporal. From a comment I found while googling:
The Game Gear was sold at the same time as the Mega Drive and was intended to be powered by the Mega Drive power adapter. The Mega Drive 2 had a different plug and polarity so Game Gears made after that time have a different power adaptor requirements to the earlier models.
Mega Drive/Early Game Gear: 2.1mm DC jack, centre negative
Mega Drive 2/Later Game Gear: 1.7mm DC jack, centre positive
It's impossible to plug one into another so there's no chance of damage from trying to use the wrong power adapter.
All Game Gears contain a switching power supply which will operate between 6 and 13 volts DC.
A model 2 Genesis one works with mine, which is positive.
Model 1 Genesis and Sega CD use a negative one.
