4 player adaptor is actually common, I have a sealed one. This accessory was available during the EA Sports craze back in the day. Definately a US release, I remember several stores stocking it. I bought mine sealed from a used game store this year.

I remember there being a problem back when because both EA and Sega both released thier own 4-player.
Problem was that neither 4-player adaptor would work with the other ones games.
I remember Gamepro saying something about later Sega 4-player plugs being compatable with EA games.
It's possible all that was a line to get you to buy 4-player adaptors, but i don't have any games or adaptors to test this out.
Possibility is infinity! You must be satisfied!

Quite common in the US, EA's "Four Play" adapter. Looks like the online guide needs a new entry.
thats what i was wonderin, i didnt think it could be any thing special but i was pretty sure it wasnt a europe only thing
My Sega Teamplay multitap saids that it does support un-Sega Multitap games. For Sega multitap games, you just pulg in control wire 1 in control 1 port of the Genesis, but you don't plug in control wire 2 in the control 2 port. You only have to put in both control wires when you want to play a un-Sega Multitap game. This is most likely for the EA games, but I can't confirm it.
I got one recently but haven't used it yet. It doesn't seem to fit into a model 1 Genesis properly when it's connected to a model 2 Sega CD.
Yep there are games that are not compatible. I remember because that is why I originally bought both adaptors. For NBA Live 95, I hooked up my Sega 4-player adpator and it didn't work. I found out I needed to go buy the EA one for it to work. Sure enough it did. I am not sure if the compatibility issues were across the board, or just for early titles.Originally Posted by Push Upstairs

This is more about the Sega adapter, but are there any games besides Columns III that could do more than 4 players at once?

Double Dribble: The Playoff Edition can have up to 8 players at once (not that I've verified it first-hand).Originally Posted by ddh819

I picked one up about 3yrs ago at a GameStop for $0.50 and it worked on a few games of mine, don't remember which ones though. I haven't played the Genny in awhile. :/
