Default Game Variations on Warlords on Atari 2600

    Hi there

I have just gotten into this game and have been having a blast in 2 player mode. However, with over 20 variations to choose from I'm not sure which one to choose. The ones I have been playing have computer opponents that are too easy. I have looked in the manual for some help but it is not very clear.

Can any of you guys recommend which variation to play?

    Thanks

The game is old and the Atari 2600 isn't able to give the CPU opponents a good AI, each variant is pretty easy to beat the computer at.
If they made a movie out of your top five worst sins, what would it be rated?

What he said. This game is meant to be played with 4 people. 2 players is okay, 3 is better, but you get 4 players on this game, and it just goes to the HNL!

There are some flaws in the physics that give some players an advantage in multiplayer mode. For example, I was playing with friends once, and was in the bottom-right castle. I was consistently attacking the top-right castle by quickly ramming the right wall and hitting the very edge of his castle (if he tried to anticipate this, I'd attack him elsewhere instead to frustrate him). Once I broke away the hole in the wall, I'd toss one final shot that would ALWAYS bounce off the top wall and hit his knight, thus killing him. He later tried this strategy on me, but for whatever reason, it never worked. Once he broke through my castle, the ball would bounce differently off the bottom wall and NOT hit my knight. This trick also worked between the two castles on the left side (although I think in that case it was the player on the top who had the physics advantage).

Also, the weird physics make it extremely difficult to hit the castle diagonally across from you. All in all, I always thought this was a rather poor translation of the game. I never understood why people seemed to like it as much as they did.

    It's a hit because:

    a) you can play 4-player simultaneous

    b) anyone can pick it up and play immediately

    c) flawed physics or not, any good player can win from any castle any time. In other words, get four gamers in a room with a 2600 and Warlords and IT'S ON.

Thanks for the replies guys. I understand that it is best in 4 player mode, but I basically just don't understand the variation system for warlords and the manual doesn't explain a hell of a lot.

If someone can help a newbie to this game out, I would be very grateful

Thanks man, I get it now.

Basically the variations determine the ball speed and number of players and if the shield is able to capture the ball.
