Default ps 3 controller name announced and New peripherals

    http://www.gameinformer.com/NR/exere...0463B90D89.htm

The controller's name is Sixaxis and costs 5,000 yen($43.00) and includes a USB cable for charging purposes and wired play.

The peripherals annouced were a Blu-ray/DVD movie remote, and a memory card adaptor that will allow gamers to transfer save files from PS2 and PS1 games to the PS3. The Remotes costs 3,600 yen ($31) and the Memory card adaptor costs 1,500 yen ($13).

The peripherals were announced by sony of Japan, and all the peripherals will be available for the Japanese Launch.

I posted this due to the fact the peripherals should be released in America for the Launch, and give an idea of the price of the peripherals announced.

After how Sony basically ripped-off the controller idea from Nintendo, I was expecting them to call it the "PS3-mote" or something like that.

Sixaxis? I like the name simply because it's a palindrome. Like "racecar" and "Dr. Awkward".

    I like the name Shockless Wii-mote 3.

    But thats just me.

The memory card adaptor thing sounds spiffy though.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

That's a damn expensive remote. Are Sony going the Xbox route with DVD/Blu Ray playback?

Yup, just like the original PlayStation pad, which was compared by many to the SNES pad when it was released.

Hm.. i dont get it. When Sony also announced tilt feature for their controller people said they ripped off Nintendo (Sony might have worked on the tilt function before Nintendo announced it, besides tilt function is not Nintendo's technoligy, but thats another discussion), but when Nintendo copies the double analog sticks and adds 2 extra shoulder buttons just like the PS controller has its suddently an upgraded SNES controller? Why isnt the PS3 controller a PS2 upgraded controll if the VC control is an upgraded SNES control?

Well, for one thing, for it to be a truly upgraded version of the PS2 pad, the PS3 pad would have to retain all of its features - which isn't the case due to the lack of rumble. Many have called Sony using tilt technology now a Nintendo rip-off because Nintendo has made it a focal point of the system, and then Sony announces that they too are going to use it, to the surprise of everyone (developers included). There's a difference between adding now-standard technology (like two sticks) and just throwing in something for the sake of undercutting someone else, which is what Sony appears to be doing with their tilting pad.

As far as the shoulder buttons go, Nintendo popularized them with the SNES pad, and they've already had up to three shoulder buttons on a controller - so now they're just upgrading what they popularized with the VC pad.
