Is the AV multi-out pinout the same on the Genesis 3 as it is on the Genesis 2? I know the socket is the same, but are all the leads the same?

So there's no truth to the whole "no stereo audio from a Genesis 3" thing?
Actually, there is, and it probably has to do with the different internal configuration of the 3.
The Genesis 3 does take the same jack, but the red plug will only pass a buzzing noise to my TV. Interestingly, either the white or red plug must be connected or else the picture won't show, but only the white plug will give audio. This should be true for both Genesis 3s I own.
Pick any other version of the Mega Drive/Genesis, including the Nomad, Mega Jet and Genesis 2 - they all work fine with this same cord and television. It's definitely the hardware (I checked right now just for you).
Hmmm... possibly a grounding issue?Originally Posted by Ed Oscuro
Possibly pins wired up wrong! I see that there's supposed to be two versions of the Genesis 3: single and dual chip versions. I believe both of mine are single-chip types.
I have heard this rumor, and what you say sounds quite odd to me and causes me to think "Wait, have I ever tried using one of my RCA connectors on my Genesis model 3?". Perhaps I will test out my system soon on RCA and see what results I get, though I do know that it appears that I get perfect stero using a RF adaptor on my model 3.Originally Posted by Ed Oscuro
Now as for the origional question, Yes the connections are the same, and Yes I think the pin-outs are the same.
I would also like to say that I often now take my Genny3 on trips with me (cause it is so small and easy to pack when luggage space is limited (im taking about faily common church trips where there are 75+ peeps)) and I always take a RF adaptor as not all hotels have RCA TVs, Anyway, Im telling ya, my Genny3 gets sooooooo Much better picture and sound on RF than my models 1, 1.5, or 2 do. In fact, on a good TV, you could swear that even using the RF connector you are using a RCA connector due to the Pic and sound quality!
I will get around to editing this thing again.
RF outputs mono audio.Originally Posted by SuperShark
And most TVs are wired so that it'll spread that mono sound across both channels. So you're being tricked into thinking it's stereo, but it's not!
