Default Question about PS2 Power-off Error

Lately, I have had a bit of trouble getting my PS2 to stay running for very long. It actually seems triggered by certain in-game actions, actually.

Put simply, I click "New Game" on Final Fantasy XII, and it turns off. Just like that. I have checked the power cord and everything to make sure that they were snugly in place. I have also made sure that the memory card was put in nicely.

I have not had this problem while booting it up, watching the intro movie, or even with an actual Film DVD.

I haven't done a ton of troubleshooting yet, because I really don't know where to start. It's actually a pretty new PS2, so I don't think it's a typical "PS2 turns 1 year old, dies" problem.

    Thanks for any insight.

    Edit:

Actually, it seems to be doing this more often that I had thought. Happens nearly any time the disc is accessed, it seems.

ALSO, sometimes it won't even start at all. I just get the red light, and get to hit it a few times before it turns green and boots up.

    What in the world?!

    Thanks for any insight.

Sounds to me like your AC Adapter may be faulty. Try testing it with another adapter if you can.

Problem solved! +500 Meseta to Den Dawg

Thanks. I was accidentally using my PSOne AC Adapter, which I have done before and had no problems. In fact, I thought they were interchangable. Perhaps they are and this one was just crappy.

Anyway, I brought out another AC adapter and everything worked great. Thanks!

I think the power requirements for the ps1 and ps2 are different. You might want to confirm it by checking the wattage on both of the power supplies.
