    Default wipeout xl, saturn style!

got this today in the mail- it's quite cool, and if you're counting, it's the second saturn wipeout that didn't come out here (wipeout 2097 was the other one). i'll more than likely have a review for it shortly...

    Default saturn XL

Did you get that on ebay? I had my eye on it the couple of times it was posted but never made a bid. Let us know how it is.

    What's Wipeout 2097?

    Default update...

wipeout 2097 is, i believe based on the sit-down arcade wipeout 2097, a vomit-inducing thrill ride if ever there was one- that's a recommendation). it's a uk release, and i got mine by accident. i won a set of games, and the seller shipped me the wrong stuff- he hadn't even put up any of the items he sent me! i just told him i'd trade off for what i got, and that was the end of it. i'll have to see if it came out in japan (then it also gets added to the playstack)...

so far the game is very good- quality wise, a few steps down from the ps version, but still very good stuff...

That's odd; I thought Wipeout 2097 was the original game that appeared on the Playstation. That one was ported to the Saturn, which was an excellent game (at least to me); while the graphics took a slight hit, the ships' handling was much smoother, and they didn't slow down when hitting the side of the tracks.

How good was the Saturn Wipeout XL? I absolutely loved that game; it's one of the best PSX games by a mile.

well, 2097 says it's "version 0.2", and it seems a bit different in spots. once the wall here is fixed, i'll go dig up my u.s. version and do a side by side. i may be confusing it with the actual arcade 2097 (i played it more than the console games, and i'm still terrible at it, lol).

xl has slightly tighter (by a small margin) control than the ps game, no transparencies (but of course), and the overall color palette is blander. it's also one player only, like the port of the first game, which is the biggest disappointment. the music may be different as well, but again, i'll have to do a side by side...

guess what? wipeout xl for the saturn and wipeout 2097 are the same game, lol! the main difference is in the two title screens, and a few of the weapon icons are slightly different in both games. mystery solved!
