Default Pokemon GB Games - Zelda-esque?

I remember hearing somewhere that the Pokemon GB games were kinda like the Zelda GB games. Does anyone here know if that is true? I have no knowledge of anything Pokemon related, but if they have the same questing around type feel, I might be interested. However, if it is just Dragon Warrior type battling, then not so much. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

The best way to describe pokemon is as a linear, traditional RPG with a team of six characters out of a stable of X (x being up to 251 or whatever it's at now). The difference being that there are lots of collecting elements (duh), and the bestiary is a large focus of the game. You do run around in the game like you do in Zelda, but the battles are standard turn-based RPG faire.
