Anyone know if all the games for Genesis that were released in a Cardboard Carton version have a Hard Case version available?

No...some of the EA titles were cardboard only, as were a few others, such as Star Control. Most of the normal red spine boxes had dual releases, but Phantasy Star IV was cardboard only as well.

Sonic and Knuckles was a cardboard only release as well. Damned Sega..
I made a reply a few days ago on the early EA and Accolade/Ballistic cardboard boxes. It's here:

As far as the cardboard boxes, well, I'm not sure whether they have plastic shell versions for the most part:
Frogger, Monopoly, XMen 2 (Mega hits), Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic 3 (Mega hits), Taz: Escape from Mars, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Power Rangers: The Movie, Gargoyles, Xperts, Ristar, NBA Hangtime, Phantasy Star IV, Bass Masters Classic, Beyond Oasis, Zoop, Star Trek: DS9, Skeleton Krew, College Football II, Bonkers, Race Drivin, Exosquad, PageMaster, ATP Tour Tennis, Tecmo Super Bowl III, Kawaski Super Bike Challenge, Sonic 3D Blast, Adventures of Batman & Robin, World Series Baseball 96, The Tick, Art of Fighting, Battleship, Shining Force II, Wheel of Fortune, Prime Time with Deion Sanders, The Ooze, Desert Demoltion, World Series Baseball 95, Mega Bomberman, Light Crusader, Action 52, Ultimake MK3, Castlevania Bloodlines, Vectorman 2, Weaponlord, AHH Real Monsters, Comix Zone, Vectorman, Stormlord, Primal Rage, Doom Troopers, Arcade's Greatest Hits, Paperboy, Clayfighter, Tiny Toon Adventures
And probably more.
The ones that I'm sure have plastic shells are Clayfighter, Castlevania, Sonic 3, and Tiny Toon Adventures.

Castlevania Bloodlines has a hard plastic case. I only know that because I have one.
Great to deal with: Leonk, AdamG, Cheesystick, DigitalPress, ButtaSuperb, Hydr0x, Darth Vader, Gary Gnu, Portnoyd, NexWave, Postermen, Kaine23, ARCZero, kai123, Buyatari, Minilek, DREW, bighab, AlanD, Flack
there are TWO versions of castlevania bloodlines- plastic & cardboard box. i think it was majesco who somehow got the rights to publish the title around the time the genesis 3 was introduced, and they bought it back as a cardboard box re-release with a small number of other genny games. that's why a LOAD of them appeared on ebeg and a few other game sites a while back...
A few more cardbord box Genny titles to add to the list Port:
Barbie Super Model
Tom and Jerry: Frantic Antics
And these three were released in cardbord boxes & plastic:
World of Illusion (original black grid cardbord box! Sega release?)
Paperboy 2 (This is another odd looking cardbord box, beige colored box!)
Ms. Pac-Man (looks just like the plastic version, although there is a little difference in background colors around the text on cart. I've never compared the box to case.)
And these were games you listed above that were also released in plastic cases as well:
Taz: Escape from Mars
Super Battleship
AHH Real Monsters
And I'm almost positive I've seen these in plastic as well, but can't confirm:
*Frogger
*Wheel of Fortune
*Ultimake MK3
*Comix Zone (I've only ever seen cardbord, but there was an auction recently, for one in the plastic case. The picture is gone now thou.)
Oh and there were two different Tiny Toon Adventure games: Acme All-Stars & Buster's Hidden Treasure, I have BHT in plastic, not sure which you were talking about.
Well, my question was answered thanks people.
Some games that were only released in cardboard boxes have had the cardboard cut up and inserted in a plastic box.
I've seen a weird one too, Ariel: The Little Mermaid in a cardboard box, and NOT in the red style either, it had the balck style with gray grid. AND color/waxy paper manual. (well the cover is in color anyway). however the INSIDE where the cart rested was red.
Why DID sega start producing cardboard boxes? They sucked ass. That's why NES and SNES players never kept their boxes and stuff usually cause they fall to tatters in time unless REALLY looked after.

I know what you mean, If you have a game with a cardboard box that gets frequent playtime, you can wear the edges of the box badly just by pulling the box on and off the shelf over and over again, not to mention the flaps get bent from opening/closing all the time. I would think Sega switched to cardboard late in the Genesis life simply to cut costs, obviously a smart move, anytime you can cut costs I suppose is a good thing for the company, especially since Sega by that time may have been losing big on their hopes for the 32X.Originally Posted by Alex Kidd

Family feud was released in both, even with the cart label being slightly different.
Somebody once told me to get a life.
I told them I sold it for money to buy video games.
I have been wanting to compile a list of all Genesis games that have case variants for quite some time. I dug up this old thread and fortunately (Thanks to the hardworking DP community) a lot of the ground work has already been covered.
I took what has been discussed in this thread and tried to cross reference it with pictures on ebay and then compiled it into a more digestible format. After adding a few titles and clearing up some confusion on some others I believe we have a "solid" list here.
Are there any variants or Cardboard only releases that are missing? Can anyone help with the titles at the bottom rumored to have a variant?

If a god is willing to prevent evil, but not able, then he is not omnipotent. If he is able, but not willing, then he must be malevolent. If he is both willing and able, then why is there evil? If he is neither able or willing then why call him a god?
I have Virtua Fighter 2 in cardboard.
The version of T2: The Arcade game that was a pack in with the Menacer was cardboard. So T2: Arcade Game would be under hard case/cardboard.
Actually the Cardboard release is the only one I have ever come across. That's great news and why I wanted to create this list! I'll have to hunt down the hardcase variant of UMK3.
Ultimate MK3 was released pretty late in the Genny's life cycle so it wouldn't surprise me if the hardcase was for the initial run and then further copies switched to the cheaper cardboard. I would say that the hardcase is the rarer of the two.
A big THANKS to everyone else! I have updated the list.
