A customer asked: Can you hook up an Atari system to an HDTV? What would you need? I know there are converters for RF-to-AV, is that the best or only route?

I modded an Atari 2600 4 Switch for AV, And it worked. It took a few hours to do, Though, And I would not reccomending modding it the way I did (With Potentiometers) When you can buy a chip that goes in between the graphics chip and the main board. This chip allows S Video aswell, So i'd reccomend modding it with this chip
However, I do not know how to get these chips.
I did the CD4050-based s-video mod & tested on an HDTV set - worked perfectly & was crystal clear. The RF->AV adapter would probably work decently as well, provided that particular 2600 had acceptable RF output.
Most HD sets should still have an RF input. Mine does and that's how the Master System is hooked up. It's not the best picture obviously (okay, it sucks), but it works just fine. No need to mod or anything.
Yes - HDTV's still have the RF jack. Or you could go to Radio Shack and get those RF to Composite adapters...
But if he's wanting to know if the games will be in HD. Of course not. The games will still run in 480i. Even if he finds a VCS with component mods. Unless his TV upscales - no dice.
I once had a 2600 hooked up to an HDTV with one of those "Phono to F" RF adapters. The picture was no good at all, and there were ghosting effects. For example, in Breakout there was a "ghost" ball that followed the real ball around.
And thus I returned the HDTV.
