Default Craving a great single player game....

I've been really wanting a great game lately for my PS2/Gamecube and I can't think of anything. I haven't really sunk my teeth into a game since RE4 (besides Zelda TP). I only have about 20 bucks so does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Well if you're a fan of RPG's, Tales of Symphonia for the Gamecube is really an amazing title. The combat isn't turn based and it can be as deep as you want it to be.

Obviously the PS2 has its share of RPGs as well, but if you aren't into those you could try out either Metal Gear Solid game for the PS2, or if you like action games God of War is easily the most "Bad Ass" game I've ever played. The second one comes out in march and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Except Ninja Gaiden, which thus far has not made an appearance on the PS2 or Gamecube...

Okami is terrific. You won't be disappointed. Of course, you could try to find Twilight Princess used somewhere, as well, but I think you're better off playing Okami first. It's great.

If you liked RE4 and haven't played Eternal Darkness (Gamecube) then do so.

    It's a right treat.

Thirded. BG&E, Eternal Darkness, and Viewtiful Joe are my three favorite cube games. Viewtiful Joe is super hard though, so unless you're a masochist like me (beat it on Ultra-V Rated) stay away.

Also, stay away from the PS2 release of Beyond Good and Evil. It adds in some wonderful things that the GC and XBox version didn't have ... thing like slowdown, lower resolutions, and dropped frames. I owned the PS2 version first, and actually sold it to use the money towards the GC version, as I deemed it unplayable.

    My highest single player reccomendations:

    1) ICO (PS2)- My favorite game of all time
    2) Okami (PS2)- Think a zelda adventure with a japanese art style, truly amazing game and a lengthy one too.
    3) Beyond Good and Evil- One of my favorite adventure games ever, simply love the story, setting, characters, fighting, music, everything.
    4) Shadow of the Colossus (PS2)- Never before have you or will you ever play a game like this. The most epic fights in video game history. Think boss fight compilation.
    5) Rez (PS2)- One of the most visualy beatiful games of all time, you go into a trance when you play this game in the dark with the lights off and sound pumping.

Theres alot more but these should keep you going for some time.

I second Shadow of the Collosus. It was the first thing that came to mind, and I can't think of anything else I would recommend over it.

God Hand. If you've ever enjoyed the beat-em-up genre but wish they had a little more depth and a lot more oddball humor, this one's for you. The difficulty is just right, meaning that every time you get hit, you COULD have dodged (unlike older beat-em-ups where getting hit was par for the course), the humor is amazing and the bosses and boss fights spectacular. I can't recommend it enough. There should be used copies around for $25, or you can get a new copy off of Amazon for about that price.

I'm also a big fan of Sly Cooper, which I hold in higher regard than any of the 3D Mario games. I haven't played much of the 2nd what with being without a ps2 for a few years, but I'm rectifying that as we speak.

God Hand, huh? Wasn't that done by Clover? I've been meaning to check that out, since I loved the first two Viewtiful Joe games.

I would go with God of War, but SoC is still wrapped

Others that haven't been said you might want to consider:

Devil May Cry 3 pack for $30 bucks - 1&3 are good 2 is so so, goes along with the undead thing, and is a good value for the $$
Kingdom Hearts is $20 and if you like Final Fantasy and Disney it is a fun game. If you go for final wep and optional bosses could take 65-85 hrs and by the time you finish KH2 will probably be $20

I would wholeheartedly recommend Okami. It is not only one of the best games for the PS2, it is one of my favorite games of all time. Zelda set in a living Japanese watercolor painting with a unique and engaging combat system. The only real negative is that it falls on the easy side of the coin. Might be hard to get it for $20 too. Worth every penny though.

Shadow of the Colossus is also absolutely incredible. One of those games I think everyone should play in their lifetime. ICO is also nice, but much more in the realm of something like a non-violent Resident Evil with a little Myst thrown in there in terms of gameplay. Not the greatest description, but it can be hard to describe. Both games have a gripping sense of emotion that is unique in gaming.

I do need to raise a flag of caution for God Hand though. Saying it is extremely quirky is an understatement, but if you can handle something like Cho Aniki, you will be fine with the humor. The real flag for me is actually the gameplay. It takes some time to get into it and is ultimately rewarding, but it definitely is not for everyone. I think the game is cool, but it is definitely a polarizing title. Most will either love it or hate it.

Finally, you might want to give Killer 7 a go. It is extremely cheap at this point and is definitely unique to say the least. It is another love/hate game with a gameplay system that is difficult to describe, but it is definitely worth the $10 it commands for a brand new copy. Go with the GC version.

Second on Killer 7 (for Gamecube) - definitely one of my favorite games of the PS2/GC/Xbox generation.

For a change of pace, Everblue 2 (for PS2) is a quirky scuba-diving adventure game that can take a large chunk of time to finish (especially if you care to go for 100% complete).
