    Default This arcade machine just ain't right

    The Aladdin's Castle in town is behind the times with the rest of the universe. While they did get a Soul Caliber 2 machine, they also got this weird Addams Family-themed "electrocution machine". It's got Fester with a light bulb in his mouth coming at you in plastic molded 3D with two lines of lights running from the console to his head. There are two inch thick metal rods on either side of the console along with three buttons: Low, Medium, and High Voltage. The object of the game is to grab onto both rods for as long as you can (or hold one rod, hold a partner's hand and have your partner grab the other rod) while you are "electrocuted". The "voltage" increases until you "light Fester's bulb". My sister-in-law and I decided to play it (as both of us were unsure about tackling this thing alone). So we clasped hands, inserted the coins and (since we are both sick) selected "high voltage".

    This game is torture. You don't get shocked (I figured not, but you never know these days), but the rods painfully vibrate-like a dual shock hooked up to a nuclear generator. If you let go, the game is over. So both of us clung on as if our lives depended on it. As the lights slowly light up toward Fester, the machine revs up even more and continues to do so until Fester's bulb is lit. You then get 3,000 points and the game is over. Our arms were totally numb, with tingly sensations in our hands. My hand itched like mad a few minutes afterward and I didn't dare use that hand to hold a soda.

    Even though it was hell for about 1 minute, it was still intriguing to try. I'm tempted to go back and try it by myself.

    They have one of those at Jillian's at the Mall of America. Yeah it's not much of a shock, it's more of vibrations. The machine sounds a bit different though, this one doesn't have Fester on it. I don't know which is a more dangerous machine after rounds of Jagermeister -- this or DDR.

    A fun thing to do is to stick an Alka Seltzer in your mouth beforehand, or if you are a decent actor, act like you are realy getting shocked.

    Neil, that is an awesome idea.

    "What's the game like?"

    ::Foaming at the mouth:: AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!

    Then some guy pipes up from the back "Dude, lend me two tokens...."

    We have one of those machines at the GameWorks at Easton...I tried it once, I accidentally picked High Voltage level...

    Let me warn you, if you have arthritis in your hands, DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!!!

    *Ahem* Sorry

    Honestly, the vibration felt good up until 1,500 volts (halfway point for the highest level) then it got mildly uncomfortable...then at 2,000 or so it got crazily painful!! I was going to let go, but my hands were locked into place!! After I defeated the game (3,000 volts), I had to slip my hands up the bars to let go because I couldn't move my thumbs. I had a bone bruise in each thumb, and couldn't even hold a pencil for the next 3 days.

    Man I want to play it again...

    Worst of all, right after I finished, a family who had just seen my face contort in ways that most mortals cannot even comprehend, actually asked me "Does that hurt??" I of course said "No, I was just making it seem that way." They left 3 minutes later with their oldest child in tears...
