Default DS touchscreen not functioning anymore. repair cost?

My old DS (3? 4? years now) that my kids use has a problem with the touchscreen, it's not from anything they did, I saw it start happenineg. It got a little wonky, now it thinks the touchsreen is premanently being touched, so it doesn't work at all except to skip anything that says "touch screen to continue"

So. Is it worth sending to nintendo? Anyone know rough time to get it repaired, and cost? Any info is great, lmk.

wow, these are going for a lot more on ebay than I thought, even used. So I guess it will be worth getting it repaired, I'd still like to know cost and eta before I contact them though. thanks!

Oh. threadjack. Can anyone confirm the screws used on the PS3 and wii systems?

Have you tried recalibrating the screen? It's an option in one of the DS system menus.

My wife called up Nintendo for me after my old DS busted last summer. They were going to charge $75 to repair it. :O

While the problem with my DS was different than yours (my internal memory crapped out and the DS was eternally requesting me to enter my name/date/time/preferences/etc), I believe the $75 was a flat repair fee regardless of the issue.

    I'm still cranky about this.

Yes, I tried recalibrating. Nothing would register

That's friggin stupid. $75. plus shipping one or both ways I imagine. I guess I'll just find a store with a silver ds in stock and just pull the usual bullshit. Then nintendo will eat the entire cost of the system, I don't get it, they HAVE to know thats what happens, why not just make it a reasonable amount like $35-$0, I'd have paid that, and they would have been out 30 minutes worth of a chinese man-hour. What's that? $.40?

On a semi-related note, the donkey kong vs mario 2 game I bought them has said the save file is corrupted every day since we bought it, guess I'll "exchange" that too.

Try this, take a toothbrush and run it along the edges of the DS where the screen is covered by the case. Some times crumbs or what not can get wedged in there, causing the screen to always sense that it is being touched. Also look at the screen and see if it is dented. Heh, the plastic of the screen, if hit hard enough can become dented and cause a continous press on the screen. If all of these fail, PM me.

You DO know that the store will take a hit for the return don't you?

This coming from a store owner too. amazing.

I can't bring myself to feel bad for walmart/best buy, sorry. Would I try doing it a a gamestop (or local game store if those exist anywhere) where I know the employees or something? no.

Coming from a one of those games stores as a worker, I would gladly make the swap. And if you felt bad in return, just give the person a reserve and hit up a feedback website for the store and give them the thumbs up.

Nintendo WILL replace this game if you talk to them.

A friend of mine bought a copy of Drill Dozer for ten bucks at Best Buy and sent it to me, and when I got it, it wouldn't rumble. So I called Nintendo and they arranged for a replacement. It took about a month due to the game being out of stock but the replacement works.

If you bought the game recently and still have the receipt, call Nintendo.

And shame on you for pulling that crap. Even with Wal-Mart. You may think the company takes a hit, but it's actually the EMPLOYEES that get yelled at.
