do you have to have the WiFi to connect to the net? i have wireless, but the system is not recognizing it. i just bought my WII last night and haven't even found my code yet which shouldn't be that hard. any help on this would be appreciated.

Yes, if you don't want to buy anything extra. Nintendo did release a wired adapter, but it's an extra $30-$35.

If you have trouble with an existing wireless setup, I recommend the Nintendo-branded dongle marketed for the DS. It works perfectly for me.

YOU STILL HAVE TO BUY THE WiFi? LIKE THE USB THING THAT GOES IN THE PUTER TO MAKE THE WII NOTICE THE CONNECTION. SO EITHER WHICH WAY YOUR STILL SPENDING $$

If you don't have a wireless router, then you've got three choices:

    1) Buy a wireless router
    2) Buy a USB WiFi dongle (plugs into PC)
    3) Buy an ethernet adapter for the Wii to wire it up

^^ What the hell is that all about?

There's a number of reasons why your Wii might not pick up your wireless routers connection. There may be too much interference, check the items around the wii and between the Wii and your router.

Do you have security settings on your router to keep others from stealing your internetz? Well then you'll have to put the password into the Wii's preferences so that it can connect to the router.

Your router might not be recognized. YOu can find a list of wireless routers that are known not to work at http://nintendowifi.com

You state you have wireless already. I posted my suggestion as an alternative if you are unable to use what you currently have. Sheesh.
