Default Want to get RGB for my US SNES--how?

Ok, the talk about vibrant colors and increased detail over S-video has me seething. I have to see how much better my beloved SNES games..aka Super Metroid...look in RGB. I know there is a converter needed of some sort. Can someone help me sort this out with maybe a general cost comparison of ways to do it?

I have a 50" KDF-E50A10 Sony HDTV with multiple component inputs and hdmi.

There's a whole range of RGB-to-component boxes ranging in price from $60 up to $300-400, most likely the more you spend, the better the output will be. In my opinion, the improvement in picture quality using one of these converter boxes over s-video would not be enough to justify their use. The low end ones will put out something that looks pretty much like s-video. The higher end ones will probably put out a pretty nice picture, but at quite a cost. None of them are going to look quite as good as the original RGB signal, either.

It's up to you, though. What you'll need is an RGB SCART cable for the SNES (look for a Gamecube one, it'll be a lot easier to find) and an RGB-to-component converter box, preferably one that accepts an SCART otherwise you'll have to hack up a custom cable.

Wow, good info. ALthough, that definetly sounds like more trouble than its worth.

there is a thread on here with someone showcasing the snes in RGB through an XRGB 2 and it looks fantastic. Those are about $200, i'd try that.

    Default hmmm..

Generally you need an original model SNES, a custom built cable, and an RGB monitor. The XRGB is a solution for modern TV's but a true RGB monitor makes a difference. Most people do not find it worth the cost...
