Cool Final Fight Streetwise: Your Thoughts on It?

I'm currently stuck on the level where you have to fight your way out of Guy's Dojo that is burning to the ground. Freggin' time limit is pissing me off, but in spite of all this I'm having a blast playing this game. I'm not much for 3-D Beat 'em Ups really, and was dissapointed all to hell with "Urban Reign's" apporach to the genre... but for the $9.99 I purchased the game for brand new a few days ago, I'd say it's worth every penny. I had played about 20 minutes of it when FFSW first came out and quickly dissmissed it, along with all the other reviewers of the game... now I'm discovering I really like this game, and not just because I'm a Beat 'em Up fan needing a new fix either.

Anyone else like the game? Or is the consensus more or less the same across the web for the hatred towards it? I found when I stopped trying to compare it to the timeless original, the game works for me. The fact it has an active story to follow is actually kind of cool too. Sometimes a game doesn't have to be high brow in order to be fun.

    Thoughts?

    Possible spoilers ahead.

Once the Glowheads take over, the game's challenge changes from decent to insane. That day, I learned a valuable lesson. If Vanessa and 2-Ill become worm-food, you have to start that area over. (That's about where I gave up.)

Gimmie a game, I'll either love it, or pimp-smack it.

I felt the same way at first, until I went back and played the 1989 original arcade game and paid attention to the backgrounds... then I kind of felt like, had Final Fight came out originally in 3-D and had a storyline to follow; it might have felt something like what FFSW is. At least Guy's being a Ninja and all that makes sense now having the "Japan Town" area, seeing as how Metro City is just a template for New York City and well... where's a modern day Ninja outside of Japan just going to appear from? However, I do think the whole "Glow" thing is freckin' stupid though. It have been hard to just make a 3-D BEU with hundreds of gang members just coming up to you in waves and having to beat 'em down. I can see where the game could've been much better, but after giving the game a go around a 2nd time I think it fits nicely, it's just not "classic" Final Fight is all.

Great... just great! This escape from the burning dojo part is bad enough to deal with, but I'll have to rough it on through that area when I get there. While I was forgiving (well, a year later anyhow) of FFSW's 3-D approach to the scuzzy streets to the bling, bling of Metro City... I don't particularly care for these "escort missions". Oh well. Thanks to the both of you for your imput.

Anyone else? *More of you had to have played the game. I'm not looking neccessarily for ppl who loved/liked FFSW, more like I'm interested in knowing why or why not you didn't like the game. Hey, I'm the curious type.

It doesnt look too good from the screens. I like the SNES final fights. the first one is the hardest.

I suppose I could look on Ebay or in the rarity guide but what system(s) did this come out on?

Honestly, if it isn't a sidescroller with endless waves of generic palette swapped enemies and gameplay trapped in the late 1980's then I think I might just pass on this one

Ok, I looked at those screen shots. The idea that characters are using guns leave a bad taste in my mouth. Like Double Dragon, there weren't too many guns (or enemies using them) to be found in Final Fight, other than a boss fight here and there.

I might still grab this one, though. I'll just do what you said and not compare it to the first (and awesome) Final Fight game.

HG101 gave it a nice little writeup here:

I recently picked it up for a wallet-busting $7.50 new because of superty's funny writeup of it, with my favorite being:

Final Fight Streetwise misconception: You raise your RESPECT points for a valid purpose!
Final Fight Streetwise truth: Stabbing women has no consequence other than comedy
    Sold.

Looking forward to sitting down with it at some point in the future, because it sure does sound reasonably fun.

This is one of the games I'm gonna be hunting down in the near future.

Even if many people hated it.

Well I just beat it. The last two bosses involved the most patience i have ever had to apply to a game. Basically in order not to be beaten within an inch of your life you have to just wait for an opening and literally wittle them down. wittle is more than just a metaphoric word, you really feal like you are carving at a huge chunk log with a pocket knife, avoiding a tons of splinters just to make a tooth pick. Overall the game was a satisfying play through.

I finally opened the Xbox version of this game after picking it up from the value bin at Sears for $9.99. The game is fun, although a bit rough looking, but the constant button mashing on the Xbox Controller-S made me switch to a PlayStation 2 controller passed through a PS2-to-Xbox converter.

I agree that it's a decent beat-em-up game as long as you try to distance it from Final Fight in your conscious mind while you play it. There is a variety of moves, but it seems to be a constant hit X, X, X, A type of game (or some variation thereof). And I do agree with the maddening difficulty level. I think the fact that you have to quit the game to save makes it so difficult.

It's almost like a bad parody of Final Fight, from the overuse of profanity (and no, I'm not a prude) and the proliferation of gay guys trying to come on to Kyle in the alleys to the beer signs for Cammy's Cannon Spike Beer in the pool hall that show Cammy's buttocks.

Since Secret Level helped to develop this game in tandem with Capcom Studio 8, I hope that the Golden Axe remake won't be as rough as this one.
Currently catching up on PSN, WiiWare, Wii U E-Shop and Xbox Live Arcade exclusives I missed.

Someone told me that Streetwise plays very very similarly to Beat Down: Fists of Vengeance. Is that true?
