Default What's the distinction between NES sleeves?

I've seen the 3rd party black ones (with varying textures), A.V.E. sleeves, Tengen sleeves, Nintendo sleeves in red... and my personal favorite, the Nintendo sleeves in metallic red, among others.

What was the distinction between the red ones and the metallic red ones is what I want to know!

One has a slightly more metallic look than the other.

The metallic one had silver sparkles mixed in with the plastic. It makes it look slightly metallic I guess.

Does anybody know when the metallic ones were in play? Was it towards the end of the system's life? Certain games? Or just random?

Another question I have about the sleeves: Did 3rd party games ever come with 'nintendo' labled sleeves? I seem to have so many more labled ones, but that could just be because 1st party games sold so well, there's so many of them out there...

This is what I was asking

I think a majority of the licensed Nintendo games came with the Nintendo logo sleeve. Tengen games came with the plain black ones, and the metallic ones came from somewhere but I'm not sure where.

Possibly the metallic ones were something you'd buy separately?

Only 1st party NES games had the red Nintendo logo (all of them, in fact). As for when the metallic red, I have no idea! All other licenses ones were just plain black. The unlicensed ones were a mixed bag of cardboard sleeves, lol.

Metallic red came in the Classic Series releases (Gray Zeldas, Punchout (no Tyson), Metroid (yellow label) as well as late released games such as Wario's Woods, Tetris 2, Yoshi's Cookie, and I think Kirby. There may be a few others.

Also, the Tengen ones did not come in black sleeves, they came in Tengen cardboard sleeves.

I'll vouch for these two posts. This is correct.

"Classics" Re-releases were Oct-92. Below are the Nintendo released games that followed:

    Yoshi's Cookie Apr-93
    Kirby's Adventure May-93
    Tetris 2 Oct-93
    Mega Man 6 Mar-94
    Zoda's Revenge Mar-94
    Wario's Woods Dec-94

This sounds right... I always had two metallic Nintendo sleeves as a kid because I bought Kirby and Zoda's revenge

What's this about metallic red? Also, I got Kirby's Adventure as a birthday present back in 1993, and all I got was a regular 1st party Nintendo branded sleeve. I've ever seen a red or metallic red sleeve in my life.

The sleeve itself it black. The writing on the sleeve is a flashier looking red.

What if you are a color blind nerd. How do you cope with the fact that you are a nintendo nerd and can't tell the difference.
Looking to buy any Criterion movies that I don't already have.

Oh, now I understand. The way I was reading things, I thought there were sleeves out there that were completely colored red. Thanks for the clarification.
